A "How Are You?" email to 8,000 of my mailing list. I'm not sure whether this can help.

This morning,
I thought about doing something different for my subscribers.

Actually, with this list alone, I have make couple of thousands dollar this year.
Which mean, I use this list to promote things.

My habit of selling to my list is always give value first and at the bottom of the email promoting stuff. I believe most of us doing it so.

But, I just trying something that I never had seen before, at least to the mailing lists I subscribed.

I just sent a "How Are You" email.

The email consist a few lines only, and this exactly what I wrote :
------------------
Dear (name),
Raja Kamil here.
How are you?

Truthfully,
Raja Kamil
(my blog url)
-----------------

I'm not sure how the result will be, I'll update how its going.

Meanwhile, if you have experience some kind of this email, whether you wrote it or been sent from others, please share it here.

Maybe the result is varies.

I predict you'll be spending a good portion of your time over the next few days reluctantly responding to a lot of emails, in the role of therapist or agony-uncle.

      Huhu;
I've anticipate a few answers and thus, I've setup an autoreply email.

I'll reply on email that's unique.

I hope it's not correct but maybe it's too soon to predict what'd happen.
I've being with them about some years.

I'm confused. You are trying to reach out to them on a personal level yet the moment they reply, they are going to get an auto reply email? I certainly predict a number of unsubscribe or spam complaints coming your way very soon.

Imagine your phone rings one evening, you answer it and it's your local pizza shop. The guy on the other end of the phone says "Hello my friend, how are you this evening?". You say "Great!". Then he says.. "Hang on, I'm just going to play this recorded message to you...". He then presses play and you hear a pre-recorded message play over the phone.

Does that sound stupid? Wellllllllllllllllllllllllll... just sayin'....

That's 30% of response. Quite good. It's hard to get your email open even 10% nowadays.

Yeah, when you say this I remember a story of 5 red shoes and 1 orange shoes.

They all have same design and put in a row.
Guess which shoe will get noticed first ?

    Perhaps it may sound stupid.
But so far, I response them 100%.

The autoreply just to let them know that I'll reply them soon if I have too.

I am not saying the idea is necessarily stupid - although I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve by doing it.

This is where your tactic falls apart. Why is there any need for an autoreply? When my friends email me do I have an autoreply set up to let them know I am going to get back to them soon? No, hell no. I will get back to them when I have time, and they know that. Everyone knows that.

It just doesn't fit with what you are trying to achieve. You are initiating the contact and then when someone replies, you are automating things - silly. How important is that person going to feel? And how much do you think THEY will think you value their response?

        It's an experiment.
        Do you have mailing list?
How do you interact with them?

I'm all for experimenting, believe me. But what will this experiment prove?

Yes, I do have mailing lists and I do try and keep things personal with all my subscribers too. Thus the reason I wouldn't have an autoreply for anyone who responded.

But in saying that, we all do things differently - that's the beauty of IM. There are actually no RIGHT answers here. There are things that people find work better for themselves but it doesn't necessarily mean the same rule applies to everyone.

I hope this experiment is useful for you! Best of luck!

Agreed, there's no right and wrong.
That's why I'm sharing what I'm doing this morning perhaps it will
trigger a better idea. Who knows.

The result of this experiment will reveal on the next blast next week.
More open rate, more clicks and hopefully convert higher for every offer
            I promote.

I agree with Will, you're trying to be more human with them by talking to them on a personal level and when they respond, you're shoving the 'robot' back in their face.

It's a good idea and already looking like an interesting experiment but I wouldn't have done it in this way.

How many sales are you usually able to produce with a mailing? Lets say you are promoting an affiliate product or maybe something that's been sitting in your arsenal of products for a while but you haven't been doing any promotion for it for a while.

Usually, within 24 hours of sending an email, I'll get 10 to 30 sales.
That's when I write about the product specifically.
