Free 1 week trial versus a $1 one month trial?

When you are looking at a new service you want to try do you prefer to see a free 1 week trial or a $1 one month trial?

I'm leaning towards the $1 one month trial because most people don't have the time to rush and evaluate a service in just a week.

Opinions?

It depends on a lot of factors (i.e. the service and the quality of it). Sometimes a month is long enough for the customer to get all they need from your service (depending on what it is), and they may not be interested after that.

I haven't tested either of your options, but I think I'd personally go with the free trial for one week. One month is just such a long time; it seems like a high chance of the customer losing interest at the end of that month unless you're constantly rolling out new content, but then again, I have no idea about the service you're offering.

    $1 one month trial...

first you establish that they have the means to pay you...

second you get them to make their first commitment to you...

third you give them enough time to evaluate your product/service

    I disagree.

It depends on the product or service.

If it's a PLR membership site... 2 days max unless you want someone downloading all of your content for $1

If it's a forum membership with a constant flow of useful topics and information, a month works, get them hooked and involved with the community.

World of Warcraft and MMO's usually have 3 days or a week.

Porn sites usually have 1 day trials.

Without knowing the product or service it's hard to say what the ideal amount of time is.

If somebody signs up for a trial, it means they are interested right now. They aren't going to wait 2 weeks before checking out what they signed up for. They will likely have made their decision within an hour of signing up unless it's a service that requires time to show results.
