You should NEVER buy your domain and hosting from the
same company so your survey options don't make sense.

FWIW, I use HostGator for my hosting and NameCheap
    for my domains.

Why should I NEVER buy my domain and hosting from the same company?

      Just curious.

Because one company can take total control and knock your out in a day.

Think about it - if I get separate hosting and domain - If the hosting company goes down I can still direct the domain elsewhere and If I've backed up my sites I can have a fresh site up lickity split.

If the domain company screws with me, I will still have files up at my host and just need to create a new domain name elsewhere and direct that to the site.

If I get both at the same place, and the business has major issues and freezes my account for some reason or their servers go down - I am completely screwed and at their mercy for everything.

I don't think a company can afford to knock you down because of some arbitrary reasons if they have to remian in their business . Unless one is doing something fishy, why would they be up against you??

          And

If the domain company screws with me, I will still have files up at my host and just need to create a new domain name elsewhere and direct that to the site.
Now in this case what happens to my backlinks, online reputation & Visitors visiting the old domain? Its more or less a new website with no value.

I vote HostGator for hosting, but as Shaun (and others' in previous threads) point out, it's quite unwise, and unnecessary, to purchase your domains and hosting from the same provider.

It's a better idea to keep them separate.

I use hostmonster for hosting and godaddy for the domains - but word on the street is that on black Friday there will be 80 percent off hostgator for 3 year plans which could tempt me to give it a whirl.

I agree with the above - never buy your domains and hosting from the same source.

Thank you Guys for your Replies.

It looks that most people feel the same way..i.e to buy hosting & domain space from the different companies.
Although it would have been much appreciated if anyone would have justified using a single company for the purpose.

Bluehost is pretty decent for most purposes...

However, I now use GoDaddy for domains and Midphase for hosting...

I use Hostgator for hosting and find them very reliable. I have really only had to contact them a couple of times over the number of years I've been using them, but I received very prompt and friendly responses each time.

I use Domain.com for most of my domains, their service is excellent and fast. Host gator for hosting.

When I started I used 1&1 for domains and hosting, that was an un-informed decision.

      Regards

      Ben

Godaddy for domain if you don't need private registration. As for hosting, you can't go wrong with bluehost or hostgator
