Completely and Utterly New To Affiliate Marketing. Where Should I start?

I don't know if this is the right section for me to be asking this. Basically, I began doing research in affiliate marketing about a year ago. Not really understanding it at first, I kinda abandoned it, but since then on and off I kept coming back to the videos of people making a good living doing this. Well, finally I acquired some videos from a friend and became interested in pursuing this venue. Anyways, I lost my job about 5 months ago and have had trouble finding steady work since. I am a graphic designer by career but am looking for a different line of work. I would like to know, what would the best strategy for someone starting out would be? Should I begin blogging?, should I begin with article writing? I kinda got discouraged when reading ezine policies against marketers. What would be a realistic place to start aside from the obvious list-building which I am already working on?
I would like to make $50 a day? Is this realistic enough for a short term goal? How long and what would be the best route to achieve this?

Thank You in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

Well certainly you can fund yourself doing design work, but if your looking to dive into affiliate marketing.

My word of advice having done this full time for over 8 years is avoid the internet market ( affiliate stuff ) go with straight companies that people are familiar with and are established.

There is lots and lots of room in the affiliate business but you do have to treat it like a business and not a hobby to succeed at it.

I have been wandering in cyberspace grabbing as much information about affiliate marketing and have come to the conclusion that you can only concentrate on one programme at a time.

Blogging and Article writing is all part of the make up of driving traffic to your website.

    you mention videos.

I have found that step by step videos from start to finish to be successful as an internet marketer is the only way for me to learn from a teacher or mentor. Its just like watching over his shoulder, how he does it.

    Also another tip:

unsubscribe from all your emails in your inbox and only concentrate on 1 programme at a time until you have mastered it. only the emails pertaining to your niche or programme is all you need to read, otherwise you are wasting value time possibly years.

That is definitely realistic as a short term goal. Many people start looking into this internet marketing business and are able to start affiliate marketing and make a lot of money quicker than you can most anywhere in the "real world". But it's up to you, all you really need to do is get some good information on how to start (there is a lot of info on this forum alone) and take action. Taking action will be the number one factor in how fast you can see results

wendymay1, I liked your advice, I think I'm going to try that. It seems that everytime I google something related to affiliate marketing, I find a new programme being advertised and it just makes it to overwhelming. Can you recommend a a video course or series that does a from start to finish. Maybe even something that shows the aftermath of the work done. Kinda to get a sense of what to expect on follow ups?

Definitely launch a blog asap... Distribute some of the content to article directories, and use some of it on your blog...

Make sure your articles AND your blog are optimized for SEO purposes... You can even rewrite or spin your content for distribution.

GoArticles is another choice as opposed EZA...

Keyword research is crucial, so pick a product to promote, and build a good list of keywords to go after...

Thanks bmarketer, Any ideas where I can begin? What would be the wisest way to get to $50/hr? I would like to do this with the least minimal investment to start off.
Can anybody share with me what has worked for you and what to avoid?

Blogging and article marketing are great paths. Based off your graphic design background, however, you should definitely try to get a website up and running and monetise is like Lothar Evers said. Learn some copyrighting skills to thorw on your website. Quality graphics and copy are vital. Learning some copyrighting skills will also help in your blogging and article writing so I would focus on making this skill a top priority to learn. With quality products to promote and a good ad campaign to make some extra money, you can easily surpass your $50 a day goal. Good luck!

You can definitely make $50 a day, probably even more.
The one thing I would say is that don't make the mistake that most people do and that is to fail to treat your internet business like A BUSINESS.

Most people hunt around trying to skip various parts that they either don't want to do, or don't want to pay for. If you are serious about making it in this industry, act as if you are running a real business.

        Good luck
