What do you think about earning money only through PPC?

It seems that quite a few people are earning money through PPC. And they don't worry about SEO, lists, products etc.

I'm by no means a PPC expert myself, and I don't know much about PPC. So I'm wondering how these people can actually do that?

It would seem to me if PPC is the only way they're making money, it'll be just campaign after campaign non-stop. And you'll have to do all these testing and monitoring results etc.

Do they have any time for vacations then? To me, PPC is just a short-term thing. Not really a great long-term method to base your entire business on. Is there anyone here who earns money only through PPC and still maintains a good lifestyle?

My take on PPC is that. It is great for instant testing
results. Also, it is for affiliates who promote other
people's product. BUT, if an affiliate is smart, they
will NOT want to just solely rely their income on
PPC, because like you said, it's short term.

A smart affiliate would use PPC to promote someone
else's product, at the same time, collecting vital
market data for him/herself. He would also offer
a bonus to anyone who purchases the product he
promote so he would build a customer database.

On the other hand, if you were a merchant, you
don't really have to do much PPC marketing, because
you would have all these affiliates promoting your
product through PPC, and it's not wise to compete
with your own affiliates, just let them earn your
    commission.

Unless, of course, if they haven't covered
the geographic location you're also targeting, then
in this case, I would run a PPC in the geo until an
    affiliate discovers it.

That's why I hardly ever do any PPC myself, despite
    being pretty good at it.

    That's my take on PPC.

  • Hi,

That's not quite true. PPC marketers need to worry about SEO, but it is called Quality Score in Google and a host of other aspects that you need to master and fully understand to be successful. It is not really about launching a heap of campaigns, yes you can quickly test something out in the market but a lot of work has to be done before you even decide to test.

If you are really interseted in PPC I highly recommend PPC Classroom, not affiliate link, just search for it. The site is closed but I know they are opening it up again soon. It really does show what PPC marketing is all about.

The basic approach to PPC marketing:

    1. Find popular affiliate products, so that you know other affiliates are making money
    2. Reseach the market to ensure you can capture 10,000 keywords. You need to go broad not just deep on keywords. (I am sure this will spark a heap of debate)
    3. You can test the market with say 1000 key words and direct link to the publishers sales letter and see over a week what sales you are getting.
    4. Develop your OWN landing page, you need this for quality score and tight linking to your keywords.
    5. Ensure you write high quality ads, I have two ads per keyword, they split test themselves, the keyword is always in the headline etc.
    6. Link to specific landing pages based on keywords, Google rewards you for this by lower CPC and higher ad servers etc
7.Optimize your campaign, I always ensure I am looking for positions 5-8 on Google PPC, not paying a premium and on the first page.
    8. Constantly review and change campaign, drop poor keywords, chaning headlines, change landing pages etc.

And generally with PPC, it is not just affiliates that use them, brink and mortar shops etc also use PPC to generate traffic to their sites, to capture leads etc to follow up on.

read through the PPC forum on the WF site for more information, a lot of quality ebooks and information to get you started if you are interested.

One of the things I have done more recently is to start a site in a niche, generate traffic, generate income with adsense, then add affiliate linking and reviews, continue to add unique content, and then when I am generating enough income through the affiliate links I link directly to that review page on a niche or specific product on the site. If the potential purchaser does not like it they generally stick around read and click another add.

    Multiple streams of income

    Good luck

There was a thread on a guy who makes $100k a day (yes, A DAY) using PPC.

I used to be heavy on PPC, now I use it to test things out and then build an SEO optimized site around the offer to guarantee steady traffic at no "per-click" expenses.

You can always combine both, but PPC doesnt need ot be short-term. Its much quicker though and easier to test new waters with PPC

I'm not a PPC expert but I do use ppc to test my squeeze pages and see the conversion rate.

It is also the fastest way you can generate traffic.

"Don't put all your eggs in one basket" - holds true for this situation. You don't need to test or monitor ANY campaigns, if you don't want/need to. You can outsource that. If you have the ability to.

Was that profit or gross? The guy could be marketing planes, jets, houses, or whatever and make that money

The only marketing/advertising I do for my offline
business is PPC. Monitored it closely for the first
few months while I was learning. Haven't changed
    anything in almost 2 years.

Good posts. I guess PPC is good for testing, but in the long-run SEO is still what makes you money. I like doing things the free way, so SEO for me. Maybe PPC if I'm bored.

      Not exactly true.

For SEO, you don't have control over which keyword your site shows up for but for PPC, you do.

I am new at this. I was told PPC is good to use. Now I hear it is just for the short term. This really gets confusing.

I guess doing both at the same time would be a pretty good idea as well as they kind of go hand in hand.

Depending on only PPC for earning is not a good suggestion at all. If you really want to be a success in online jobs, you will have to look for other openings also. PPC is good, no doubts, but the earnings through PPC depends on so many factors which are not longstanding. Affiliate marketing could do some good and have diversified ideas so that you can stabilize yourself with some real paying concepts.
