    The following in this order:

. Contact details. Complete contact details is essential.
    . Payment gateway.
. Seals (real seals, like BBB)
    . Sales pitch.
    . Design of the site.
    . Guarantee given.
    . Age of domain.

I also like to look somewhere outside the site - other "objective" (ha) review sites, or - my favorite - the Warrior Forum! I've been saved from a number of poor purchases by searching here first, and that's just awesome.

Clean website design + professional appearance accounts for a lot!

Payment gateway itself isnt as important as the entire look and feel. Is it properly designed? Does it LOOK secure? Would you be comfortable in buying a car from a shady parking-lot or froma high-street car dealer in a suit?

Start buying your site a new suit I'd say!

Hi like to see "real" testimonials... and by real I certainly don't mean high profile marketers
that are obviously JV Partners, I mean ordinary folks that are willing to give a true testimonial,
a picture and an email address/website URL.

    Regards, Pete

I go off the look and feel of the site and the contact details as well as the payment details and the age and the guarantee - also use my gut feeling too!

A secure server and how the money is collected. I've seen some professionally designed sites that are scam sites pretty much

I'm going to answer this in a little different way. Let's say the product on the site is something I really want, but the site looks a little suspicious. Maybe the design is not as professional looking as I want (but I've been had by a professional-looking site, so that doesn't prove anything, really). The question I'm asking myself is how can I limit my risk of losing too much money if my purchase doesn't work out?

So first I try to figure out if there is a pretty good chance the site is legit. For that I try to find external sites that reference the one I'm thinking about buying from. I might check Better Business Bureau (depending on how much the cost is). Also, one thing I just started doing is a Google search of "site: (domain of the site)" to see how big the site is. If it has lots of pages, it might be legit.

But the big thing is if they take PayPal. If they do, then I don't have to give my credit card number out to them, so the most damage they can do to me is to just take the money I'm currently feeding to them; they can't drain my account.

So if I can buy using PayPal, I am much more willing to take a risk with a site. I'm not how many others use this line of thinking, though.
