Hi,
Before all of you cringe and say noooo stay away from paid surveys, let me say upfront that I'm gathering some *credible* info for a friend. She wants to look into this as a method of making some part time cash, so I need to know: a) Is it ALL a scam, or any of them worthwhile? b) Can anyone recommend any legitimate and well deserving paid survey sites I can direct her to? Thanks, Karen |

Karen,
I wouldn't call them a "scam", but your friend would probably be lucky to pull down enough to buy a cup of coffee! Tested this venue myself about 2-years ago, and in 3-months only made $5 taking everything they threw my way. Problem is, MANY if not most of these sites just put your name in a pot for a chance to win XXX dollars. Teach your friend about affiliate marketing. ![]() Pete |

I can only speak about UK paid surveys as that's all I know about. I have a number of friends that have made money from paid surveys. There are large well known brands using them for feedback. However they're not great earners. A friend spend 9 hours a day filling them in while off work after giving birth. She did well to make £200 ($350) a week for a bit. However after a while she exhausted the top paying ones. From what she said you can make some money for a short period by putting the hours in but it's not a substainable income. Rich | |

Thanks Rich and Pete.
This was the advice that I unfortunately expected. Sigh.. The problem is, I don't have the time to teach her anything. Maybe I should introduce her to Travis Bum maketing? Here's the kicker.. she's my daycare provider She doesn't have a lot of free time during the day (ie, when the kiddies are sleeping), and has certain times in the evenings. She doesn't know IM at all or anything about it and has so-so skills on the computer and Internet. I don't have the time to teach her or hold her hand but want to at least help point her in the right direction. Telling someone who has no clue about making money online about "affiliate marketing" isn't cut-and-dry enough for me. I suppose what I should do, if I'm going to discourage her from paid surveys, is to find the best system that will help her learn various methods of making money online. Simplicity is key - I have a feeling she will not have the time to follow through any complex type of system or overwhelming system. I spoke to her about writing online.. she's under the impression that she wouldn't be "qualified". I told her it doesn't quite work like that - writing articles and ebooks doesn't always take a master's degree. It's more about learning a style of writing (ebooks) and learning some basics about keyword research (articles). I might try to lead her in that direction. I think first I will send her a few of my ebooks I wrote in the past, so she can at least get a feel for what I'm talking about. I really do NOT want to introduce her to the Warrior forum, at least not yet. I think it will completely overwhelm her and have her going in all kinds of directions. Thanks again for the comments, I have some thinking to do... Karen |

Those survey sites aren't all scams, but they're not worth it either. I did, however, get enough money to start in IM from them, though. Stay away from the $500 gift cards, because it takes about a year to receive them. Also, I have a buddy who did a trial offer from someplace to complete one of the surveys and he's still getting charged even though he's canceled the service. If you try it, use a Visa Gift Card, although they aren't accepted with some of the companies because of the possibilities of fraud usage with them.
Get her started at http://www.associatedcontent.com . A simple 300 word article would earn her at least $3 for each one, which could be an extra $100 per month if she simply wrote one per day. Have her write about daycare, starting your own daycare business, taking care of children of all ages, things like that. She'll feel qualified, start learning the ropes, and maybe even enjoy it all at the same time. She doesn't need to do any keyword research with them either. Just start writing and sending. If they don't need the article, she can still submit it for no pay and make money from the performance views bonus. I have about 16 articles up there and earn a steady $3 per month from the performance views alone... It's not much, but may be enough to make somebody realize that this stuff is for real. |

I discovered you'll need a separate email account to handle all the email you get, and probably some free time to handle some phone calls. IT can get crazy and hectic at times. It's easy to find yourself doing them many hours a day every day.
I looked into this before getting into IM. I don't recommend it, but if you can handle it, give it a shot. |

I agree that writing may be her best option to get started (assuming she can write).

Thanks again for the replies.
@Bishop81, associatedcontent is out because we're in Canada and I believe that is US only. @Chris definitely true, assuming she can write. I have no idea if she can or not, but she's a pretty intelligent person from my knowledge of her. I figure it's the best avenue right now to introduce her to. |

Karen -
I can also second Cash Crate. I don't make as much as Amy from there, but I do make enough for a tank of gas every so often. LOL I am sending you a PM about an idea for your friend. |

I guess you can make money with CashCrate. I just found a picture of a $1,400 check and I guess it was all made from referrals if you read the blog.

SCAM!!!!!! You either have to pay a small fee or pay for shipping and handling because you have to accept 2 offers and you have to pay or subscribe (fee) to something.

Send her to the Thirty-Day-Challenge - all free, step by step, starts with the very basics.
Thirty Day Challenge It runs "live" in August each year, but all the lessons are there so you can do it self-paced at other times of the year, and there are always people in the forums. |

I can't believe that nobody in here had a good experience with paid surveys. I've been doing them for years and still earn pin money from them. Would earn more if I had time to do them all but I no longer do with my other earning activities.
I have to gather a list for someone else here that asked me for some links - I will send you the list, too, for your friend if you'd like. They are all sites that have paid me and are legitimate - no spam, no selling your email or any of the crap the scam sites pull. Send me a PM if you would like the list and I'll pull it together this weekend. Tina G |

In my opinion, paid surveys are not a scam, it is possible to make some SMALL money with them. It has been years ago since I participated in such a site as a member (not promoting them thru CPA), and it does get quite tedious.
Depends on your demographic and location also, as certain demographics do get selected to receive a larger amount of surveys. |

The only survey company I had success with is global test market, (emphasize the words "SMALL success")
I personally recommend Mystery Shopping and Market research, (been doing them for 10+ years) but unfortunately, they're not as prolific in Canada as they are in the US. I've shopped in both Toronto and Vancouver, but never made nearly the same amount of money I do here. I'd also direct her to "wahm.com" which has a ton of ideas and legitimate wah companies there. I'm also on their forums (as "buzzy") which are very active and quite helpful! Good luck! |

I've been doing paid surveys for about four years. While it definitely doesn't provide a full time income, it gives me a little extra cash.
There are some good companies out there and there are some bad companies. Stay far, far away from anyone who asks you for money. Real survey companies don't do that. My favorite company is LightspeedPanel.com. They give you a specified amount of points for each completed survey. Once you've accumulated enough points, you can trade them in for cash (paid through PayPal), e-certificates, or merchandise. I can't tell you how many survey invites your friend would get (this depends on demographics), but I receive several every week. They accept panelists from 15 different countries, including Canada. If she wants to give surveys a try, I think Lightspeed Panel would be a good company to start with. I hope this helps. - Cynthia |

In my opinion, paid online surveys are all HYPE. You'll be lucky if you've made $30 at the end of 6 weeks. Most of the time you have to buy something or pay for a service to get credited. So many people are selling this info to unsuspecting customers claiming they can make $300 a month from online surveys but it's all BS.
I dedicated a post to it on my blog. Advice your friend to try out PPC and Blogging and Affiliate Marketing. |

I will agree that they do not pay much - not at first, anyway - but an extra few bucks beats a sharp stick in the eye any day.

But on the contrary if your friend has a lot of time to waste let him do the survey, but data entry is even beter than Surveys.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I don't think she's going to go this direction now, she's looking more into the VA field. Really she just wants a business she can start from home more or less on a part time basis.

I swear so many people open their mouth's before they even know what they are talking about.
Sure there are plenty of them out there, and yes you can get much more than a cup of coffee. I have an account at SurveySavvy, and even tho I have done VERY, VERY little with them, I have received over a $100. That's not alot of money, but like I said, I havent done much with it. They have an affiliate program two, it may be 2 tier, I dont remember, but you also get paid for every survey your downline completes. If you want to join, or pass a link, and use my affiliate link, pm me, and ill give it to you. There is a thread i started this morning, where there are links to paid survey companies. I havent reviewed the sites, so not sure if they are any good, but you may want to take a look. Survey Marketing Url's Requested |

The problem with the surveys is that as Canadians we don't qualify for a lot of the better ones. I have tried signing up for ones that I was told were really good and unfortunately I was out of their area. I've been doing it off and on for quite some time and I have a bunch of entries into sweepstakes, but have only made about $1.50 in cash.

Bottom line is paid surveys are not scams but they are not worth the effort you put into it either. When I started out a few years back, I got sidelined by a lot of "make money from surveys" offers, wasted a lot of time too. You'd be lucky to get $50 in a month.

I have a list of legitimate work at home businesses, jobs and other opportunties you can start for free or on a shoestring at my Earn at Home website. (I have covered Virtual Assistant jobs, Mystery Shopping, starting a health store for free, pumpkin painting, santa letters, call center jobs, etc. I included survey sites but agree that is it pin money for most unless you put a lot of time and effort into it.
I also have a list of different places to write and what they pay at my Write for Money Online website. Writing for money online can be a great way to earn extra cash. I like to write for sites that pay based on adsense clicks. I get residual income from sites every month from articles I wrote along time ago. |
