My site disappears from google!?!?!

I have a site evocase dot net that is indexed in google. My target search term is Evo Case. My problem is that the site pops in and out of search results. Every time the site shows up in google I get great traffic and conversions. Does anyone know what I can do to help the site stay in google? This has been a very frustrating problem. Thanks for anyone help!

Is your site reasonably new? Does it follow a link building phase?

    Hi Mike,

I don't really have anything to suggest but I have had this happen with sites before.

I just had a site reappear yesterday and I hope it is staying this time.

Have you tracked how long the site disappears for and also how long it stays back? What are your backlink practices with the site?

The particular site of mine that is doing it has been rising in the rankings quickly. It showed up mid 2nd page to start and got up to #4 before it disappeared. It was gone for 4 days, came back for 1 day still at #4, disappeared for 7 days and then came back again (for 2 days so far) at #2.

I've poured a lot of backlinks into this site and I've wondered if that is why it is doing the same thing. From webmaster tools, I show over 3,000 links and the site opened around Oct 20th. I didn't intend to do so many so quick, but I got a link in the sidebar with two different websites and it's indexed a bit under 3k links from those two sites.

I figured if any of this sounds familiar, perhaps we could figure out what causes it.

      Thanks for the replies.

My site was opened early summer of this year but I think it was sandboxed for a while. I started to notice the site jumping in and out of search results around August. My webmaster tools shows 0 backlinks which is kinda crazy because I have at least 300. I was thinking that my problem may be due to lack of content on the homepage. I could be way off. One thing we do have in common is the sidebar link problem. I have a link to my site from a sidebar link that gives shows 40 links from the same site using an online backlink checker. But, they still don't show in webmaster tools so im not sure if thats related or not. I would just remove that link to find out if its the problem but that link is one of my top referrers.

Hope we can figure this out.

You're links are not going to have much bearing on this at all. The reason being, even if Google saw you had 300 incoming links, if they know your website is getting no regular traffic at all then they know those links have probably been artificially created.

Think about it, if a site had 300 REAL organic incoming links, then common sense says they would also be getting some people/traffic to their website. 300 people are not going to link to a website that is crap and no one is visiting.

        It's all common sense really...

A site that has links and no traffic looks suspicious. A site that has traffic but no links looks normal. A site that has links and a good amount of new traffic means popular.

I too have a site with a lot of content and consistent backlinking that bounces around in the SERPs dramatically. I've been on page 1 then nowhere to be seen. I'm in a second phase of being pretty far down in the SERPS.

I just keep adding content and links. The entire site has loads of unique content. The site is relatively new - having launched it in May 2010. I added a LOT of content quickly (200 long posts); now I add about 2 to 4 posts per week.

I think most of us have been through this same dilemma. It happened again to a new site of mine recently. It is just Google's way of trying to find out where they should place you in the results.

My latest site kept going from position number 1 down to page number 3 or 4! And this happened every few days. But then one day I started sending regular traffic from Facebook over to my site - that day the site rose to number 1 again and has remained there ever since. And it's just a squeeze page with hardly any content on it.

The only thing that changed was the amount of new and unique visitors hitting the site - that have NOT been sent there by Google. So make sure you install Google Analytics on your site and then send some traffic over to it on a regular basis for a week or two.

Facebook is a good option because Google are probably unable to tell whether the visitor decided to visit your site because of an advertisement or not.

    Hope it helps...

Thanks so much for the insight WillR. The thing is, the site is getting traffic from Bing, Yahoo, and another site that I own closely related to the niche. So do you think that if I install Google Analytics, it will let Google know that the site is indeed getting traffic from other sources? This makes sense to me and thanks so much for pointing it out.

Yes, I would definitely install analytics so Google can see the traffic you are getting from other sources... and keep concentrating on driving new traffic.

This was also talked about recently by Ryan Deiss in his ranking triad formula:

Page Ranking Triad That Google Doesn’t Know About | Driving Traffic

They also found from tests with many sites in many different niches that activity on your sites - new traffic, comments, etc play a big role in ranking well with Google.

Just keep building links to influence Google in the positive. Make sure many of those links have link popularity to share with you.

The more strength you have in the eyes of Google's algorithms, the more stable your site will be in the search results.

That use to be the case in the past but not as much anymore. Yes, links do help with your rankings but only when they are combined with activity on your site and good content.

As stated, your site could have thousands of incoming links, but if no one is visiting the site do you really think Google are going to think your site is really that important?

You need all 3 to have success. Content, some well chosen incoming links, and traffic. If you provide the content and drive visitors to your site, the links should happen naturally anyway - provided your content is worthy.

I just assumed everyone would understand "good content". LOL

Activity is important to a lot of sites, but many static sites still have good rankings -- based on good content and a steady stream of good quality links.
