Everybody Wants To Make Money Online!
I love dispelling myths and industry "standards". The one I'm going to dispel right now is:
Only targeted traffic works... Like Penn & Teller would like to say "Bullshit!".
Here's how I came to think of this idea.
Many people have had success with stuff like parked domains, traffic exchanges and well, the worst form of it, spam...
So I thought to myself "But, but, all the gurus and experts tell you that untargeted cold traffic sucks!" Then how come the ones mentioned above work? So I decided to test it without spending any money.
I have a friend in the weight loss niche with a decent responsive list of about 8500 prospects. He recently decided to give the IM niche a shot, after all he's been making decent money with his weight loss stuff.
But he didn't know anybody and he was just starting out, so I told him that I would do a broadcast to my list for his product for something in return...
But wait! He only has a list in the weight loss niche and I have nothing in that niche.
So ok, I told him "Send a promotion of my IM product to your weight loss list." He thought I was high on something but went for it.
Take into account that my IM product is specifically designed for newbies/beginners who know nothing about IM and don't have any money to invest. It's a step by step without spending money sort of thing.
I didn't expect much from this since I was only conducting a little experiment. But here are the results:
1. Around 32% open rate (which he said it was average for him).
2. A decent CTR of approximately 48% on those who read it.
3. A lousy conversion of about 1.3%.
Now, my conversion is usually around 3%-5% for that product, but of course this was very untargeted cold traffic.
The math: 0.32 x 0.48 x 0.013 x 8500 x $47 product ($42 minus fees) = $712.86 from completely untargeted cold traffic!
He didn't use an affiliate link for my product's promotion nor did I for his.
Of course my overall conversion droped, but I couldn't care less, I made $700 for free with an experiment that was settled in 20 minutes on an MSN Messenger conversation.
Yup, so there you go, untargeted cold traffic works, especially in the make money online/IM niche.
If you have a list in another niche and don't have an IM niche product, just grab a good IM product for beginners and send a promotional broadcast with the affiliate link for that product to whatever niche your list is in.
