GoDaddy Suspended My Account

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know about this. I just got a Domain Suspension notice from Godaddy, and my hosting account from them was also suspended. Luckily now it's being resolved.

I had an older version of Simple Machines Forum installed on one of my domains, and apparently there is some kind of exploit that allows posts to be emailed to thousands of people. I don't know all the logistics of it, but after I was on the phone with GoDaddy Abuse, he explained that is was Simple Machines and my best bet was to just remove it since I never used it.

He did mention its an exploit in older versions so if you currently use SMF, make sure your are using the most recent version. I was using version 1.1.11

Just wanted to give you all a heads up
Craig

You aren't the first to be suspended by GoDaddy and you won't be the last. I always recommend D9. They understand our issues. When I had an issue with someone exploiting a script on one of my sites, they just informed me of the issue and told me that they had removed the offending script.

    No harm done.

They were actually really cool about it. I told them that I had no idea, he reinstated my hosting account right then and there so I could uninstall SMF.

I haven't had any issues with them so far other than this. I have used 1and1 for a number of years, as well as Hostgator and so far GD has been pretty good. It just sometimes become a bit of a pain to manipulate your way through their web site back end.

godaddy is very skeptical about security.

its good that they do it securing their clients, at the same time it also limits webmasters have many features because of their server restrictions.

Did they try to upsell you anything after all that?

Every person there must be required to hard sell or else they must get big commission checks from upsells. They last tech guy I talked to was telling me how dumb it was not to use their cash parking.

Yeh godaddy cost one of my clients a ton of cash. Not his fault on the thing they called him out on either. They may have the best deals but they certainly have too much of a god complex now.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I would never use GD for hosting. Also, the upselling is nauseating.
