Does anyone here work in the movie review niche? If so, has it been profitable for you? What sort of movies do you target?

Perhaps look at which genre you are most passionate and whether it's profitable. For me, I'm into scifi and superheroes and these normally have passionate fans. How were you thinking of monetizing the site? Google adsense?

I haven't even considered buying a domain in this niche yet, I just saw a product about movie reviews and wondered if it was a profitable niche or not.

  • It is profitable, if you can achieve rankings. The good thing about this is there is always a new movie coming out, so a never ending supply of sites to make, plus the movies that are slowly forgotten that you can target as the competition dies down.

Interms of monetizing you can actually include many or one. For the sidebar you can have one of many:

    1. A link to the amazon DVD in the sidebar
    2. A link to the DVD from another site that pays higher commission
    3. A link to the DVD for an online DVD rental site like Netflix or Movie berry?
    4. A CPA offer relating to the movie in some way

Then in the text of your reviews you can have less obvious hyperlinks to these products, a picture at the bottom etc.. you get the gist.

People sometimes stop at the review of the movie, but it can go such much further than that, you can rank for the movie review as a whole, and have a full review of the movie in post.

But then you can target specific scenes in the movie, review certain characters, effects and so forth.. It gives you way more material, more to rank for and alot more for your viewers to talk about.

And it also increases the offer range you can include such as for example, if one of the people in the movie you are reviewing are very buff, you can add free trial weight gain / weight loss offers if they want a body similar to "x" character.

Or if people like the special effects, you can link them to a free trial offer of Adobe premier or what ever else.

    Possibilites are endless.

And this can be done with more than just movies.

Also this works well with social media backing. I'm sure you've seen those facebook groups targetting a movie with tons of fans etc.

Unless you are getting insane amounts of traffic, movie reviews are'nt going to mak eyou much money, now streaming movies, that is a different game all together

I don't have one of these businesses, but I think if you create a good site that has lots of loyal readers you can definitely monetize it through advertising and other forms of blog monetizing.

If it's something you love then jump in and build your readership, then learn how to monetize it the right way.

    Good luck.

I think the problem with movie review sites is that

    1) the fanboy niches already have established players.

    2) all of the big authority sites (msn, yahoo) already have movie review sites.

It's not a niche I've looked at very closely aside from my own fanboy surfing but on the surface it looks like it could be a tough nut to crack and a lot of work for not enough gain.

It's a niche site your going to have to update weekly and it's not content that is easy to outsource.

I suppose if you have a voice/personality that readers connect with and love movies it could work.
