A question about outsourcing

Hi all, not sure if this is the right forum but I think it applies...

My question today is about video marketing. Lets say I am getting cheap labour from elance/freelancer to make simple videos (that i give them pics for) with movie maker then uploading them to youtube. How much should I charge per, lets say, 20 videos?

I don't want to loose money, but I don't want my potential workers running for the nearest exit either. Any input/past experience appreciated. Thank you

I'm sure someone competent could put out five to ten an hour pretty easily so I would pay about $1-2 per video, but then I'm not a fan of video marketing... and knowing elance/freelancer you could get it a lot cheaper too.

Also it depends how many videos you are looking to get made total.

WOW that much per video? What is "a lot cheaper"?

Submit a job request, and have them submit bids..
This is the easiest way I use every time to test the waters... and more often than not, the cheapest one is not the best option...

      Very, very true.

It's tempting as hell to try and get something done for the cheapest price possible...

But think about where you're at if you're not happy with it. Now you have to go find someone else to do it RIGHT.

Thanks for makin' that point. Always get what you pay for!

Find someone on Fiverr. Tons of people who do video gigs on there for cheap.

Hmmm... I suggest trying the task out yourself for 1 video, including edits and YouTube submission. Then, if for instance you submitted a good edited/polished 3to5-minute video in 10 minutes, including report template details (the person would need to fill out a report/work documentation template for you to easily track the person's progress in case you decide to send a lot of such tasks in the future), I suggest multiplying task completion time by 1.5. So, a service order for 20 videos, including submissions and work documentation, would take 10 minutes x 1.5 = 15 minutes x 20 videos = 300 minutes or 5 hours. Usual hourly rates here in Manila = $2 (competent, can easily comprehend instructions, can quickly learn new tasks and how to use software unfamiliar to them though without relevant work experience) to $4 (trained in IM/SEO/SEM-related tasks for 1 to 2 weeks by someone with a 2-year expertise in IM/SEO/SEM, faster than the other person by 2 to 3 times and with 4 to 6-months of relevant work experience). So, your service order can be somewhere between $10 to $20 for 5 hours worth of video development work, industry standards considered for service order requirements. That way, VAs will look at it more as a fair deal, instead of them seeing a job ad like "20 Simple Videos Needed, $1 per Video"... Yes, even if it'd exactly take them the same time (5 hours) to complete all 20 videos. I'm sharing what I constantly encounter, and I'm sure you know results may vary. Also, I don't believe this is "getting the cheapest deal", but rather "getting the fairest deal possible for everyone involved". Hope this helps.

If you do a few yourself you'll know how fast / easy it is.

But if you just create garbage videos it will seem like spam, and this is not a good strategy. Focus your effort, ALWAYS, on creating good content.
