Hi, a quick question to UK based affiliates marketers promoting to UK consumers - do you use a .com or .co.uk???

Why?

Thanks,

    Hey Stuart,

If you site is going to be UK promotion only, then I would go with .co.uk

If you are promoting worldwide, or outside the UK too, then .com

I have a few UK only websites that are .co.uk and they are fine!

    Hope that helps,

    Good question,

.co.uk naturally ranks higher in google.co.uk and vice versa in google.com

So if your selling purely to UK customers always go with a .co.uk as Chirs Kent suggested its also more recognisable and considered more "genuine".

It doesn't hurt to also get the .com and redirect it to the .co.uk.

I have dealt with people regarding UK specific sites before, and especially if this is a
'local' site for an offline business catering to people in the UK only, there's no way you can go wrong with a .co.uk domain.

On the other hand, if it's a more general site selling digital products or perhaps a site carrying adsense and amazon ads as well as affiliate products, then a .com might be a better choice.

      Thanks for all you comments.

Paul - this is for an Amazon affiliate site, is it easy for a potential customer to recognise it's Amazon uk once they click through?

      Thanks.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but i'm unable to start a new thread yet as I dont have the required post count.

I have had a .com domain for about 2 weeks now and I have been doing well in the google.com results due to using article marketing automation and also free traffic system building backlinks. However, my site is purely targeted at the UK market so I have changed my geo-target using google webmaster tools. However, I am not ranking on google.co.uk at all, should I consider purchasing a co.uk domain and starting again or what would you all suggest?

Also, I assume AMA and FTS are very american based so are there any UK based article submission systems I could use to build up more UK backlinks?

        Cheers guys.

If your product and service only based on UK then go with .co.uk or if you product and service based on worldwide then go with .com
