what is the best way to make money online?

Hi
A year ago I spent a couple of months trying to make money online, I have a business that is up and down, although I really enjoy what I do, I am always worried about if we are having a good or bad week.
I have a lease so I am tied to it for 7 years.
I failed miserably in my attempt at making it on the internet, I tried affiliate marketing on 3 different sites, made no money, spent too much time getting them up and running, and actually lost money from google ads.
Because of the snow here in the uk, my busines is effected (hair salon)
so here I am again. after googling how to make money online, I realise there are alot of scams.
Please can someone give me advice on how to start, what to avoid, what has worked for them.
thanks in advance

I know this is going to sound basic, but the easiet way to make money is to sell what people are already purchasing online. Find something that is sought after with low competition and a high search count. After you find that put yourself in front of the buyers (drive traffic to your site) Yes I know that sounds basic, but it is so true. We all overcomplicate everything. No it won't be easy, but that's how it's done.

If you want long term success, find something that you are interested in. Check to see if people are searching for it and if the competition is not to steep. If both those circumstances check out, begin by building yourself a list. Give away great content to your list. Don't go into it with the attitude of what can I sell to them. Have the mindset that you want to help them out. Give them something that is going to enhance their life. Slowly promote to them things that you know will benefit them.

Always have their best interest in mind. Once you have that relationship established, you will continue to make money for the long term. I'm no guru and I'm not a millionaire, but I have made a little money online. Your success depends on how hard you work at it. Stay dedicated and focused even when it seems like it's not working. Do that and give great content/products and you will never fail.

I wanted to give you a real world example using you. You say you have a salon. I'm pretty sure you have a nice clientele. How did that happen? It didn't happen overnight. You had to build a relationship with them while giving great service. Slowly but surely you got repeat customers. You see how that works. Build that relationship. With a solid relationship comes trust. Once you have that trust, making money will be alot easier.

I know we get bombarded with all the make a million dollars overnight emails, but that is a dream and its short lived. You want a business. An asset that will produce for you many years down the road. I hope this helps.

      See you at the top

      Hi Helen,

That's a tricky thing to answer. There are so many ways to make money online, and a lot of people end up getting scammed. They either pay a ton of money to some online "guru" with the hopes that they will solve of their problems, or end up spending money on programs that end up hurting them in the long run.

Then there are those that do the research and aren't hasty. They find out what works and then work it until they accomplish success. I would encourage you to do this.

I can't tell you what the best way to make money will be for you, because I'm not you, and don't know what that would be. However, I can tell you what has worked for me:

      1. Choose a Niche. Decide on that niche based on what you are interested in, what people are looking for (by doing keyword research) and how much competition there is.
      2. Set up a website. I recommend using wordpress, because it's easy to use and very good for SEO.
      3. Start generating content. Do this on a regular basis. However, try to develop high quality content that separates you from your competitors.
      4. Build a list. Have an opt-in form for people to subscribe to your list. Give away a free resource to entice them on to your list and provide them with valuable content via an autoresponder sequence.
      5. Promote Affiliate Products. That's a great way to get started because you don't have to worry about developing your product yourself. You can leverage what's already out there.
      6. Develop your own information product. This is the goal because you have a lot of leverage when you have your own information product, you can build an affiliate army that can propel you to the next level.

That's the best I can do in one post, but I hope it at least gives you an idea as to what is possible and what is a good direction to go.

      Hope that helps!

There are tons of ways, but if there was a "best" way then everyone would be doing it, so it would not be best anymore.

Find something that you can research to get a good feeling that is is profitable and achievable without costing you a ton of time and money, then educate yourself and go for it.

Then keep going and going and do not get side tracked.

    Hi Helen,
If I am to say,the best way I have come to REALISE as the easiest way to make money online is to teach, teach and teach again.Let me explain. You said you have been online for like one year now, right?.I believe there are some experience you must have acquired in the past one year or so.My advice for you is to settle down, don't be in a hurry, learn some new methods of making money online,be it affiliate marketing, blogging or whatever.

But one mistake I made, and I would never allow any person[online] to make is not having a blog. For whatever reason, you must have a blog.It is very necessary. It cost nothing to build but it is much more worth it.At least, when other things fail you can always fall back on your blog[Or you can decide to sell it!].That's that.

Like I was saying, after learning some stuff, write a simple ebook on whatever you have learnt. This is the way most gurus make their money online.Information is the key to wealth. So,they sell the information that other persons are in need of.

This is the STEP TO TAKE:

    [1].Learn,learn and learn.
[2].Package what you have learnt.Or you can decide to put a short PLR[maybe 5-10 pages] on any niche of your choice.Products on health, weight loss, beauty, love and dating, skin care, parenting, and a host of other non-IM related niches are always selling and anyone promoting those niches will always be in money. No doubt about that.
[3].Sell what you have learnt. You can decide to do this on WSO or you can put up a simple blog or site to do this. You will never regret it,as you got nothing to lose.NOTE:
As long as the information you are selling is useful, and has value people will buy it.Always have this at the back of your mind.
    [4].Rise and repeat.

Edit:There are some USEFUL INFORMATION we know that WE ARE REFUSING TO TEACH OTHER PEOPLE.We forget that THAT INFROMATION THAT WE ARE NOT USING TO OUR BENEFIT AND NOT ALSO LETTING OTHER PERSONS TO GET IT is affecting not those persons but ALSO OURSELVES.
TEACH me today, and I WILL PAY YOU for what you have TAUGHT ME,if it is USEFUL.

    To our sucess,
    Az Ozegbe.

Helen, it sounds like you're looking for consistent and predictable income right off the bat, to balance the somewhat unpredictable income from your hair salon especially in the winter (I read in some other thread by a marketer from the UK that business and almost everything else come to a standstill when it snows over there, for some reason or another).

While affiliate marketing is a great way to generate passive and residual income after everything is set up, it may not be the best way to generate immediate income, which is what you seem to be looking for.

While you can keyword optimize your sites, add valuable content and SEO them with backlinks over time, this does not happen overnight. I'd suggest providing some kind of service for instant cash for the time being, such as article writing, blog set up, backlinking, etc.

They may not pay a lot and may not be the most thrilling work to do, but it'll keep you afloat especially when your income is unpredictable. You could run an ad in the Warrior For Hire section for this purpose, and at $20 it is pretty inexpensive.

Work on both of these so that you can generate both instant and longer-term residual income. I won't sugarcoat it and say that it'll be easy in the beginning, but it'll be worth it.

Build a list, build a list, if I had a dollar for every time someone told me to build a list, I wouldn't have to work online.

All you have to do is make a series of "authority sites" and slap up some AdSense banners on them. I'm getting into explaining about these on my blog.

Helen, there are many specific ways but they basically all boil down to a fairly basic process, which I've described in a little more detail on my blog.

    1. Find A Niche
    2. Develop A Website
    3. Build Traffic
    4. Get Subscribers
    5. Monetize Your Website

You can use this process for a product of your own, a blog, a forum - whatever you may be planning. Most marketing products you pay for will give you some version of what I've listed above. Sure, there are a lot of details in between but you rarely pick those up from reading a $37 ebook, rather by getting out there and finding your own way to go about it and personally getting past the multiple challenges you face.

You already have a natural love for doing hair. Why not look into seeing how you can use the knowledge you already have to make some money online. There may be lots of people who would love to learn how to cut and style hair. How can you teach that to them?

You could start a blog about hair, hair styles, hair care products, hair trends, celebrity hair styles, best hairstyles for 2011, short hairstyles, long hairstyles, hairstyle tips and tricks. I bet you could go on and on.

You could write reviews of various products and promote them on your blog. Become an Amazon.com affiliate so you can put those on your blog and make money.

You could write your own ebook about hairstyling tips and sell that on your blog.

I think that if you stick with your passion for hair, you could do well in that niche.

You need to focus on buyers of your niche.

Once you identify them, it becomes easy to generate targeted traffic.

Best way will be to create your own high quality products and sell them.

      There you go.

If you've done hair for any length of time, you've seen people put gum in it, damage it with cheap coloring solutions, and probably much worse.

How about doing your own product on something about hair care as suggested by Fun to Write?

      I'll get you started.

      Go to: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Enter the Captcha code - prove you are human letters and enter hair for the search term. (vary that then - hair care, hair damage, hair style, etc.)

This tool shows you what people are searching for on Google.

You can sort by column - look for local searches at a higher number to get started (there's more to it than that, but that's the basics to see if this is really something you want to do).

You may want to check "Exact" under search types on the left - that means the exact search phrase you typed in vs any phrase that contains all those words... e.g., hair damage would match stuff with hair and damage in them - the exact search matches the phrase "hair damage".

There's tons of problems out there to be solved - hair removal (probably competitive), home coloring solutions, getting out gum, etc.

Use the Google tool above to help generate ideas.

Also, think of the biggest problems your customers have or biggest complaint (can't find a style for thin straight hair)... produce an ebook or videos on that problem and you've likely got a winner.

The more desperate the person is for a solution, the better your product will sell. If your product is called:

"Remove Gum from Your Hair in 5 Minutes FREE, Guaranteed!"

      It will sell better than:

"3 ideas for boring hair styles from the late 80's". (although the latter may have a nostalgic market)

It's about listening (researching) to find the problem. Then, researching solutions (or already knowing them) and producing a product that solves that problem.

The more desperate the buyer the better... relieve pain, make prettier/thinner/richer.

      Hope it helps! Good luck.

PM me if you actually read all this and want more.

If you didn't read all this, you (no offense) probably don't want to try to sell stuff on the Internet but prefer the concept of instant riches that leads so many others astray.

I agree with this idea. That is solid advice. You can take the skill you are already good at (hair care) and find ways to make money from it online. PLAN PLAN PLAN! You cannot do it all at once, so design a plan of how you will start, what you will do next etc. Make in a long term plan that you can stick too and build gradually. That's the best recipe for long term success.

The world of IM can be so intimidating and while there are many ways you can make money online, I found the techie stuff to be a major barrier for me. For example, something as simple as setting up and configuring a blog.

Of course, that can all be outsourced, which is what I do. :-) But I am now taking my time nad learning how to build a BUSINESS online. Anyone can st up a blog, but it takes much more to build a business.

      Hope that helps.

Hi there, I am in the next county to you (Bournemouth)

I am quite new to this myself so can't give any specific tips as I am still learning too, but I HAVE made money so I can assure you it DOES work! Keep at it The no 1 thing to avoid though is buying too many products, you'll end up being in a position where you get 'information overload' and won't know where to start!

There is no "best way," of course. It is simply a matter of finding a way, or ways, that work for you. Also, the "best way" does not always mean the "easy way." Don't overlook the benefits of learning aspects of internet marketing that may now seem challenging to you. As you gain knowledge, along with using "white hat" marketing techniques, you will realize how much more your self worth has increased. This will certainly be beneficial, and valued, on a personal level and when you present yourself to others.

Have you got a website for your hair salon?

That is an obvious first step for making money online!

As you have an actual physical business in that niche which will make it much more authoritative, respectable, and trustworthy.

Start of with it just being a site to direct customers to your hair salon.

Then gradually grow the site. Adding pages for them to buy hair products, then buying information on hair care, etc etc...

Then from that point it is easy to grow further out into the more general niche of beauty care, or into health care. Or even just generally into products the female market wants such as clothes if the site becomes really big with a broad customer base.

You could quickly design a simple site for your hair salon business, and get it ranked for a simple local term like 'hampshire hair salon'. I see several local hair salons ranked for that term on google.co.uk, and I'm sure if you can get your simple site ranked on there it'd dramatically increase the number of customers walking in your front door.

Once you get good at building these local sites, you could even approach other local businesses in your area and just inform them about what you can do in terms of getting their business additional exposure online.

If you blogging and advertising then its the best way to make money online. Although it takes sometime for that but its FREE and that is the best thing. So design a cool looking blog, add adsense and affiliate products from clickbank and paydotcom and then promote using facebook or other social networks and also using best forums like this.

You'll definitely get reward for your work.

You can start with online surveys. There are some great sites which pay for your opinion. Only 5 to 10 minutes work a day. I found one site called Memolink, unfortunately very less surveys are available in my country but in uk they give lots of surveys. You can try it and do let us know please.

    Thanx

Helen, why not critically look at why your hair salon is failing, are you 100% convinced its the snow or something you"re not doing well/properly. You see making money online is applying thesame offline principles. If you cannot critically examine why you are not making it offline it will be very difficult to make it online. Both has its own challenges, its for the operator to remain resolute in the face of challenges.

i"ll advise you continue with your hair business while you pursue another line of business online.

There are various ways to make money online but it all depends on your needs. Some ways can take you months and some can take you years depending on your needs. Your knowledge on a subject is equally very important.

  • Dear Helenback,

You need to take a hard look at what you do best. Doing what you do best is the best way to make money. Now, if it turns out that bangin' hair is what you do best, try getting someone else to create online content that points to your brick-and-mortar business.

Just flailing away at some form of IM won't work. If you actually want to turn a profit, do a SWOT analysis:
    • Strengths
    • Weaknesses
    • Opportunities
    • Threats
If none of your strengths are in writing, marketing, SEO and the like, you won't prosper online.

    Here is my 2 cents.
Make very short HOW TO videos on hair care, tips and tricks.
Post to YouTube drive traffic to your websites which you have more tips, affiliate links to hair related products.
Ask your visitors what they want to see, produce more videos to answer their questions and help them.
Recommend products that can solve their problems.

I’m currently acting on my own advice and it seems to be working.
