Marketing a Social Network

I have recently started a social network for business and professionals. Its an addition to an existing website i been running since 2007.

We have about 100,000 members so far.

What would you recommend for marketing to give it a nice boost.

How closed up is the site? If you can open it up a little that can allow a huge amount of user generated content to be used for SEO benefit.

Give your existing users some sort of bonus for referring their friends to your site. You have a great amount of users that you can leverage to grow your site and word of mouth is the best marketing there is.

You just have to figure out how to get your existing user base talking about your site and the best way to do that is to make it both easy and profitable for them to do so.

Word of the mouth takes forever, i was thinking more of a quick boost type.

I like your idea of leveraging existing user base. That reminds me of email marketing. Thank you.

I assume you have privacy settings? Leave the default as it is now, but allow people to switch that off and open themselves up if the wish in the future.

You could also run a competition for bloggers to draw in links. Or just any kind of competition generally is sure to attract attention.

What would be a good place to start contests for bloggers?

I'm going off the wall and say here.

This is a well trafficked site with a brand spanking new contest section. When something worthwhile is posted there is immediate feedback. http://www.warriorforum.com/member-contests-challenges/

And there are a few internet marketers kickin' around as well.

Some people here build blogs for a living... maybe present it as an offer? With 100k members on your site there must be a way for you to monetize it, then offer incentives to the people helping you grow your business.

        just a thought.

Ask all the questions you want, but in the end they will all be answered by just doing it!... Get to work!

You could do a guriella marketing campaign using promotional products to entice sign-ups...and offer a reward for signing-up.

With the use of QR codes this is all very possible to engage right on the spot while still targeting your exact niche.

If you're interested, connect with me.

Facebook is currently the most universal social networking Web site with more than 500 million users internationally. With an enormous base, it is logical that the conversion rate at the site could be much higher. Therefore, you could use Facebook to make cash online. The system used by Facebook advertising is both cost-per-impression or cost per click. First, choose an appropriate category for promotion. Facebook does not allow the promotion of products such as software downloads, ring tones, and cocktail.
