What are the secrets to making Twitter a viable marketing option?

Is Twitter a real option for Internet marketers to use when marketing their IM products?

Twitter seems like a place where you can announce updates, events, etc, but in reality, can anyone on this forum actually say they have made a good income from Twitter, or that it is responsible for generating a regular monthly income for them?

I believe there are a few threads in here that address that. I know because I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. If you do a search (theres a search this thread button near the top of the page) type in what your looking for and there should be some threads that help you out. I found some that helped me out. Hope this helps

Twitter is great IF you have a large following on there...otherwise focus on building your optin list as that is the most effective way to market!
    To your success!

The basic principle to obtaining followers on Twitter is to follower first those you would like to follow you. This requires a lengthier, more detailed description and, if you check, there are courses, including videos, which show you how to do this.

There is a large amount of software which will also make claims for gaining followers for you quickly but keep in mind that it's quality you want, not quantity. 10,000 followers are useless if they are not interested in you or never see your messages.

I'd recommend selecting your followers manually as a means of quality control.

As someone mentioned earlier, one useful way of using your followers for marketing is to build an opt-in list and sell to them by email. Twitter readers are not very responsive to direct promotions but are more willing to join your email list.

This assumes that your Twitter account is focused and aims at a particular group of people who are interested in your content. You'll be much less successful if you try to be all things to all people.

Want the best advice anyone has ever received when it comes to Twitter?

Don't use any automation or you'll grow a large number of followers composed of robots with no interest whatsoever in your tweets.

That, and you may well get your account shut down!

The best Twitter followers are those you select yourself and who follow you because they want your information. And as mentioned above, your focus should be on getting them on your list rather than selling to them.

Definitely do not try to do any direct promotions on Twitter, as this is not the proper medium to do it with. My advice is to get them off Twitter as fast as you possibly can to your blog, Facebook fan page or opt-in page where you can get their full attention and interact with them some more.

I'd highly favor getting them to an opt-in page directly from Twitter, so that you can capture their email details and then interact with them on a more personal basis. You'll be better able to deliver valuable content via email and also promote products and services far more effectively than you would within the confines of Twitter.

I do not like twitter . If you really want to get profit then you need to get real followers who actually follow your tweets not other people who follow you in hope that you will follow back...

I actually am in the final phases of creating a Twitter product which I'll be releasing in less than 2 weeks.

I love Twitter. It's opened doors for me that I wouldn't have come by otherwise.

I guess I'm wondering about using Twitter in a different way...I'm not referring to getting traffic directly from our followers (though that is fine)...I'm wondering if we "Tweet" links to new articles we've posted on Ezine will that help our page rank? I mean can it help with "link juice" in the eyes of Google? Does it count as a backlink??

Twitter is for building your optin list and relationship with other users. Follow the follower of the people in your niche. Do not use auto-follow as Twitter will know and your account may be ban. Everyday, tweet some quotes and chat with people.

Utilized your bio to siphon off traffic to your blog, facebook, optin page, etc. The money is in the list.

Twitter is also highly useful as a means of getting reviews and testimonials when you have a new product. If your Twitter account is well-targeted towards those who are likely to be interested in the product, you have a ready pool of people who will examine it and tell you what they think.

This is especially valuable for those niche products which are not intended for the IM audience.

Twitter can be very powerful if used correctly. Especially if you're marketing IM products, do not try to sell anything directly on Twitter, as I'm almost certain you'll not see any results doing it this way.

You have to get them off Twitter to your blog/site as quickly as possible, or even to Youtube videos which then link to your main site, but never try to direct link to any product or sales page on Twitter as people on there absolutely hate being marketed/sold to!

On Twitter, make nice with the parrots and keep an eye on the canaries.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Twitter is a great tool which can be successfully used to save time and money. In this type of Social Media, you can rather release short tweets to your team members describing what you have to say. Share what you’re doing so people learn about the type of work you do.

Don't use any of those automated, generic tweet services. Look through the list and retweet worthwhile posts. After you retweet, be sure to follow that person. In most cases, people will return the favour. You might given this person a 7 day time frame in which to follow you back. This is just a general guideline, of course.
