.......and doing manual submissions.

Which directories are you submitting to?

If you submit to the top ones manually do you ever use automated submission to all the rest? Would this be beneficial in any way?

Thanks!

I do manual submissions to Ezinearticles.com.

Since I am a Platinum level author it takes 3 days to get my articles approved.

You only submit to EZA? Any reason you do not submit to the others?

Yes, by the way, I AM in the Witness Protection Program. I could tell you who I am but then I would have to kill you.

    EZA always.

    ArticlesBase and GoArticles often.

A very few others, very occasionally.

I used to submit to about 7 directories, but over the last year or so, I've gradually come down to 3, really.

    I don't.

It would get you extra backlinks in the ones where the automated submission works and the article's published. But that's about all it can get you, and they're really poor quality backlinks. Many aren't accepted/published, the ones that are go on PR-0 pages (regardless of the page-rank of the directory's home page), they often go only into Google's supplemental index rather than into the main index anyway (though that doesn't devalue the backlink, admittedly), and if you submit (as some people do) to 800 directories, there's a very high chance indeed that 700 of them won't still exist this time next year because article directories come and go by the thousand, so most of them are pretty temporary anyway. Multiple submission to downmarket directories would use up time that I could be using writing a new article for my site, and for EZA, to build up my business.

EZA, ArticlesBase, and GoArticles are the best. Alexa is right about the PR-0 directories. They're good if you're looking for a large number of backlinks and you only need them for a short period of time. But they probably won't last. If you're looking for human readers, then EZA, ArticlesBase, and GoArticles are the best.

Most automated directory submission services are a waste of money. As Alexa said, a lot of the directories in these programs are no longer in existence or are on the way to being non-existent. Submitting unique content to just a few of the higher ranking directories will benefit you more in the long run.

    Hi,

Could you submit to the main directoreis, and submit to the others for backlinks, and backlink to the original article to increase its standing in google search?

So basically you guys are saying that posting to more than say the top 5 directories is all you need and posting to the rest will at best give you a few additional backlinks.

      Thanks!

I haven't yet used any article submission software but it does look pretty handy and most of the softwares come pretty cheap. It might not be a bad idea to try them.
