Who uses the Service Business Model?

Hello Everyone. I am thinking of creating a web design service in Switzerland. Does anyone here own a service business that offers web design, seo, hosting or writing?

I live in Switzerland and my father just outsourced someone to make him a simple webpage for $600!!!! And it looked crap. I could of done this in 2 minutes. For some reason Swiss people pay a lot more for services.

I own a few websites but I don't get a regular income. The reason for considering the service business model is to get enough income to work on my sites.

So if anyone could share some tips with me and maybe tell me if you are making a good income that would be really nice. I hope my English wasn't that bad

    Hi jedijames

Swiss web designers are not alone making a killing producing crappy sites for traditional businesses, it's a rampant trade in Nigeria as well... people just don't know enough about the web to be able to compare and when offered a service related to the web they equate it automatically to something that's out of this world so naturally are willing to pay crazy amounts usually to the first guy they meet whether. Crappy designer or not, many have no way of knowing... while others don't care they just want a web site that's at least presentable.

Having said that, I'll answer the actual reason you posted by suggesting you rush over now and grab a copy of "The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business" it's retailing on amazon for around 12 bucks (and is worth every cent whether you're young or old, you'll benefit from much of what is in this book)... It's well written and very down-to-earth.

It also touches on the aspects of running a service business that you just must have in place if you want to make dime in profit. I don't know of any free sources to suggest to you (maybe others do), but if you're going to be able to charge 600 bucks on one job building a simple site, the 12 dollar investment in this should be a no-brainer.

    Best of luck,

    Kunle

I have two service businesses in different niches -marketing and real estate investing. I use the same techniques to market these as I do product businesses.

Articles, AdWords (local geo-targeting is great for service biz), build a list and then warm them up by delivering great content. Position yourself as the expert and they will demand that you do business with them.

For example, I have a real estate consulting model charging $2500-$5000 upfront That stays sold out. (I only accept 5 clients at a time). The built in scarcity works well, too.

I do monthly webinars (free) and a 15-page newsletter that really gives them all the info they need but they still would rather pay to have me do it for them.

I suspect the same will happen for you.

Collect leads, warm them up, overdeliver and voila.
