When you started out building a list, how long does it take you to reach 10,000 subscribers? What are the methods used while building it?

well it all depends on the niche and what traffic sources you decide to use. Could be 10 weeks like JennSpencerIM or it could be a single week or even a day with doing something like a product launch. All depends on niche and traffic source used.

It really depends on the strategy you are using. For I actually like using the 7dollar secrets strategy my self for it ensures me that those that are on my list will be buyers in the first place. So they are more likely to buy from me in the future as well. On the other hand you can build a list in a very short time using other methods. However you can not be certain that it will be a buying list. Your first concern shouldnt be how fast you can reach that high numbered list.

Instead you should be focusing on targeting that list making sure they are buyers. What would you rather have a list of 500 guaranteed buyers or a list of 10000 individuals who may or may not buy anything you every have to offer them.

To me i would rather have that list of 500 buyers rather then those 10000 possibles who you might break one day but when you do break them into the buying mode you better be sure that is well worth their wild or you will turn them into that cold monkey again who disregards your emails.

I only work in two niches myself (IM and personal development)...but i only targeted very small niches within those two big niches.

then i shoot out a bunch of free stuff(articles, ebooks etc, etc) then i hit up social networks. Then i take the list that i built from those efforts and i do some list swaps and jv's.

im going to look into jv giveaways but so far i dont like how that stuff works. you have to pay all of this money just to get your product to to the top ..a bunch of bs, but i know some people who love them.

Actually with a technique i like to call "Marketing 2.0" you get as many people as you can, then you use the techniques to "CONVERT" the majority of your list into buyers.

it's through the use of relationship building, nlp psychology, and value giving.

sometimes i can convert people on my im list that found my site by searching for "how to make money starting a franchise"

I am still using the same technique by building a relationship with the readers. However I will make more sale out of a list of 500 subscribers then anyone would with a list of poorly targeted 10000 subscribers.

While it takes you months to get your subscribers to actually buy. I can turn an entire list of 500 subscribers into buyers in the very first month. So lets get in to odds here. A list of 10000 unlikely buyers 1 out of ever 100 may buy or a list of 500 1 out of 2 will more then likely buy however I have had much better numbers then that which was really 1 for 1. While I would continue to build the list in the same fashion the list would reach 1000 buyers in a mater of days. The round two of profits would come in every time I increased the list by building it with 100% buyers the first time around. Every time my list grows with 100% buyers so does my income.

So back to the numbers the numbers. While you make 100 total sales out of 10000 subscribers I would make on average 250 sales on just 500 subscribers. Then another 250 sales with the new subscribers a few days later.

I hate to day it but the odds are in my favor even if I only get 1 out of 5 to buy from the first sales offer I would still be doing far better then you with your 10000 subscribers.

This is not to stab back at you but to show you that you do not need a massive list to make money through email marketing. You can get good numbers with a small list if you simply make sure they are buyers in the first place.

As a note to chris. There is still away to build a massive list in a matter of hours with PPC how ever you need to do so with mobile phones instead. Go have a look at any one of the mobile marketing courses out there. I have thought about putting that mobil monoply course to the test but never did like paying for traffic in the first place. So I just kinda washed it under the table and never used it. I did like the course though it looks rather promising.

If you had the money and inclination, on Adwords, bid for a term like credit card, and you could build the list in a matter of hours to a couple of days.

Unfortunately, Adwords no longer accepts squeeze pages so this strategy won't work anymore.

    Chris

P.S. You shouldn't be concerned about the size of your list, rather the 'quality' of the list, by 'quality,' I mean a responsive list of hungry buyers.
