Which Niche Is More Profitable To Build A List For?

Hello fellow warriors. Before I go into my question of building a list I'd like to introduce myself. The name is Sharingan, I've been doing affiliate marketing for a year now with success in ppc(google and alliance/teachers:Affiliate Project X/Adwords Miracle) and seo(mini niche websites ranking on google/teachers:Bring The Fresh). I'm not a super affiliate but I make some coin on the world wide web(the most powerful marketing tool and medium in our time) enough to replace my 45k a year income. I didnt quit my job though because I want the money i.e. 90k is better than 45k. However my google adwords ppc campaigns are all destroyed because of googles ever changing contradictory terms and conditions that one needs translators and hieroglyphics decoders to understand. Anyways I'm through with adwords, i make enough on alliance but needless to say my income took a hit. So I hear all this talk about building a list. "The Money Is In The List" "Longterm Business". So I am in the process of building a list for the very first time(I feel like a newbie and hey I guess I am). So I am wondering between Cooking and Dog Training which would be more profitable and feasible to build a list for. I love Cooking and I love Dog Training and I did some niche research and found loads to talk about in these two niches but which would be more profitable and more long term? I appreciate the feedback warriors!

I don't think anyone can say which niche is going to be more profitable because it will all depend on your expertise in getting your subscribers and getting them to buy from you.

Cooking is a very broad subject so you would have to narrow it down more. Have you researched what affiliate products you would sell in these niches?

With cooking I think that people are usually looking for free recipes and information. I guess it depends on what you had in mind.

I would go for both topics. Cooking is such a generic term... you could cover a lot or a particular niche. Go to work building your sites, load them with content, affiliate products that pertain to your topic, perhaps write ebooks and sell, etc. Offer a free report or free recipes to get readers to join your list.

And... paragraphs make for easier reading!!

While you say you "love" both niches, which one could you see yourself becoming a recognized authority for? Have you built any brand equity in either niche?

For example, Bobby Flay or Emeril LaGasse would obviously choose the cooking niche no matter how well-trained their pooches might be.

On the other hand, Cesar Milan would have to pick dog training, no matter how tasty an omelet he could whip up...

If you really can't identify a preference, I'd pick cooking if I were in your place.

While a ton of people have dogs, most are happy with basic obedience training for a well-mannered pet. With a life expectancy of ~10 years, that puts them in the market for training techniques about every decade or so - if they don't simply choose to rely on what they already know.

On the other hand, everybody eats. From basic survival cooking for bachelors (and bachelorettes) to hard-core foodies, the possibilities for building multiple lists that are loyal over the long haul seems greater to me.

Hopes this helps you sort things out...
