To Spin or not to Spin?

Hi Warriors,

I have heard two arguements to spinning articles and want to clear up which arguement is correct.

The first one is that when submitting your article to article directories you have to spin the content otherwise you will get penalised for duplicate content and say you submitted 10 of the same articles due to penalty one backlink will be recognised

The second one is that duplicate content penalty only applies if the content you post to article directories is the same as on the website. So the arguement goes is youe content is unique (not the same as the content on your website) it is ok to post the same article to the article directories and you will get quality high page rank backlinks to your website

Which arguement is correct?

    Neither.

They're both based on misunderstandings. There are already 1,000 threads here explaining the misunderstandings. Several of them have been compiled during the last few days. This nonsense is taking over the forum. Maybe one day, people will find out what "duplicate", "syndicated", "unique" and "original" mean to search engines, and what that signifies, rather than continuing just indsicriminately to use whichever word they want, with whichever meaning happens most recently to have entered their consciousness.

Meanwhile, for those wanting to learn something useful to their article marketing endeavours, much of the incidental conversation and advice in this thread is a very good starting point (but only for people willing to invest the time needed to study it carefully and think about it).

I cannot possibly explain this better than Alexa has.

Well some people like spinning but i think that it's not so great! Yes you dont have to worry about taking the time to write everything by hand but it never comes out like a real person wrote it! My personal preference is to just "spin" by hand and then you can make it sound more personable!

        Thank you,

I think the reason why it has become popular is that the people I subscribe to say it is important (I got rid of the ones that just try to promote products and try sticking to the ones that seem to give good advice) but I thought to get the truth go to the trusted Warrior Forum

        Thanks guys

I think if you post the article in article directories which already published in your website then you may be penalized by google and its not a good practice.Best is Write an unique article then spin it and publish it in other article directories.

To sum it up. Duplicate content is a myth. Most articles are spun from subpar content, which turns them into subpar SPUN content.

Most article directories have an obscene amount of content already, so they need LINKS/Pagerank to keep all of it indexed. Subpar Spun content doesn't get many links. And in Google's eyes, a site with no links probably means that it has no value.

I'm honestly surprised that people even bother with linking schemes like this. I'm not saying it like there's anything wrong with it. But I was spinning in 2005 and the effectiveness EVEN THEN was questionied. I thought by 2006-2007, the topic was closed.

I've come a long way in my thinking on linking. I used to manufacture (blog posts, Web 2.0, article, spinning, link wheels, feeder sites, etc) tons of links. It works ok, but it's WAY WAY WAY too much work.

Total nonsense... Read the facts presented by knowledgeable people before going "viral" with urban myths!

What utter nonsense. Think about it for a moment. If that were true, think how easy it would be to get your competitors' websites penalised. All you'd need would be one quick run of some spinner-spammer-submitter software. And then what value would Google's SERP's have?!

It's just an "urban myth of internet marketing", propagated and perpetuated by people who are blissfully(?) unaware of the difference between "duplicate content" and "syndicated content".

    Hi,

Well yes, seach engines don't penalize duplicate content, but it could harm you SERP if you have the same post in your own website. I'm saying this because i read Googles term and they told that in their algoritm they didn't look for duplicate content, and that kind of stuff.

Of course you can spin article, but what you should look in your website is unique content, that way your SERP will be higher and you can use the spinned articles (+30%), for linkbuilding, you should do some linkwheels and other techniques and maybe i a week or to you will reach Googles Page 1.

    Your Welcome.

      This is just nonsense!

Like many other professional article marketers, I have about 1,000 posts (collectively) on my various niche websites which are exactly the same as copies in article directories and on the various sites to which they've been syndicated from article directories. It has not "harmed my SERP's" (or anyone else's!!).

That would be a pretty significant "penalty" anyway, wouldn't it, if it "could harm your SERP"? Why do you even call that "not a penalty"? What other sort of penalty did you envisage - someone called Luigi coming round in the night with the boys to collecting a little cash emolument to avoid any further accidents with your "SERP's positions"?!

When I spin articles, I don't spin individual words, I spin the entire sentence at least three times. In addition I don't use software, I do it manual. Pain in the ass, and some work but the average article has around 20-30 sentences in it, so after an hour I have at least 1000 unique spun articles.

Everyone has different reasons for spinning.

My reasons for spinning articles is that they seem to get indexed and stick longer than the same article submitted to hundreds of sites.

It takes me a bit of extra work per article but I think it's worth it.

I can also use very unique articles on various platforms from one good spin.

This is not done with the push of a button.

It's a process of rewriting paragraphs, sentences, phrases, and individual words.
