Here's a list of the top 50 article directories by page-rank, traffic and so on. It's a slightly strange list: a few of the things included in it aren't actually article directories at all!

If you'll excuse the observation, when I'd just started article marketing to promote my site, the last thing I needed was a list of the best 100 article directories. I've never used more than 7 or 8 article directories, and find (as I get increasing experience and more understanding of what actually produces income) that I use fewer article directories now than previously.

Kindly let me have the list of the 8 article directories you were using. I will much appreciate that. Thanks

The one I use most, by far, is EZA. (I write for syndication, and it's almost always the EZA copy of my articles which gets syndicated - I check).

I also use GoArticles and ArticlesBase quite a bit.

In the past I've also used ArticleSnatch, ArticleAlley, ArticleDashboard and a couple of others, but less so now.

The one I never use at all is "Buzzle", because it requires previously unpublished content - no use at all to a professional article marketer; not this one, anyway.

(I also use sites like Squidoo, HubPages and so on, as part of my backlinking strategy, but these aren't article directories, of course).

But hubpages do not accept external link unless you are linking to one of your hubs.

I'm sorry but doesn't EZA require previously unpublished content too?

No, not at all - they never have.

Like many other professional article marketers (and our clients), I have about 1,000 articles published on EZA all of which had previously been published and indexed on my own sites first.

EZA specifically invite and solicit from authors any articles of adequate length and literacy which they've previously published elsewhere.

They do this on their blog, in their course, and in very helpful, instructive emails which they send out to new authors opting in for them.

They also make available a special plug-in for people with Wordpress sites to be able to publish articles on their own site first and then submit them to EZA for later publication there.

This little thread, recounting one person's recent experiences with submitting articles published a year or two ago (and still online) may interest you.

And in this longer, highly informative thread you'll see a large number of successful, experienced article marketers explaining in detail their reasons for always publishing their articles elsewhere before submitting them to EZA.

and they limit 5 (if I'm not mistaken) articles submission per day. The article stats is less comprehensive as well.

However, they tends to get a lot of page view.

The lists of article directories can be beneficial, but what you do with them is what counts.

There are methods that work differently for authors.

Some authors write specific content that pertains to their chosen niche.

Some authors write content that is not related to their niche, but is popular.

Some authors rewrite content from other authors content and publish it as original work.

Some authors write their own articles and spin them for more exposure.

What you choose to do is entirely your choice. No one can dictate to you what you decide to do.

I know some writers that spin their content and publish on over 80 article directories. They derive a lot of traffic from doing this, and they also get very good page ranking.

I also know authors that only publish on 4-5 directories and claim success.

Where you fall within this field or article publishing is entirely up to what you are capable of and what you want to achieve.

It is all in the results. If it works do it. If it doesn't work, then don't do it anymore (for now), but it may work later.

While it's a good idea to only concentrate on few of the top article
directories like EzineArticles, if one has a way to automate article
submissions to the other top 100 (or even more), it DOESN'T hurt
to do so. Give or take you will certainly have MORE backlinks,

I agree with Alexa. You need to focus on maximum 10 Article Directories.

If you're using article marketing you should also spend time submitting to topic specific sites too in addition to the article directories.
