pondering if this would work, your thoughts?

Hey guys and dolls,

everyone knows blogger.com and all the other free blog websites...
and i'm pretty sure many use them too.

Now that started me thinking... i have a pretty generic domainname...
what if i use it to make different blogs in sub directories... would that actually work.

like for instance : debtrelief.mydomain.com , diets.mydomain.com

i am just pondering , if i promote these subdomains and the blogs on it , would that work? because if it does, it gives me like pretty much unlimited possibilities with keywords , without having to look for a fitting main domainname.

what are your thoughts on this

Jurrie

It will work, I have a couple sites set up in just that way for AdSence purposes. Remember though if you you create junk sites this can and will hurt your main domain. So make sure your making quality sites.

I agree with Clint...It can work as long as the sites you build are QUALITY sites.

I also think that your base domain would have to be VERY generic to be able to affectively cover a wide amount of unrelated products.

Because of it being so generic I would think you would have to focus most of your traffic/SEO on the related product keywords and not the generic keyword unless you got extremely lucky and found a good domain with low competition...if so, good for you!

    Good luck with it!

Jurrie that's not a bad idea I have some domain names that I should put to some use and setting up blogs might be a good use for them

well to be honest , i still think with the right promotion and SEO you can make any domainname work because most people use google to search for topics , i for one seldom look at the domain when i google something

maybe i need to put this to a test with one of my sleeping domainnames, lol and make a report about it....

With the right amount of promotion and SEO you can make just about any name "work", just stating that some names would be harder to rank for based on a broad keyword (which tends to draw more competition due to its higer search volumes) than others would with less competition. Probably stating the painfully obvouos, if so I appologize.

I think we would all be interested in hearing how it pans out, please keep this updated with your progress.

I read about this strategy in a report I got from a list I am on. I am busy trying such a strategy at the moment. I found some keywords in the travel niche and I am busy setting up web2.0 property using those keywords. I plan to build out each one to a "real" site and build my own content network that way. Hope it works. But from the comments above, it seems like a winning strategy.
