A person ever been prisoned about violating copyrights?!

A friend of mine is now a victim of violating his intellectual rights. His ebook is quoted several times by several different online sources without his personal permission. This might cost him serious damages. He asked me for advice but I don't have an idea..

The point is that he is from Germany, The wreckers are from USA, Russia and so on (tracked by the servers of their websites). He can't afford to judge them. He also wrote the emails to put this stuff down, but almost one month since than and no specific actions and answer.

He told me he will notify google and yahoo but .. I just wonder if this will ever stop? Imagine a year of hardwork gone in the toilet for 1 hour.. Its just complete mess.

I also ask you - what is the strongest action ever done against violating online copyrights, and if there is an established practice to conduct a lawsuit against such a violators in any country. I ask because Im from EU and here we leave to the mercy of fate..

Serious _actual_ damages from quotes? I doubt that. However, any help in Russia seems doubtful, unless he speaks really good Russian and knows a good lawyer there.

    USA has DMCA Law.

You can't be imprisoned for breaches of copyright.

Breaches of copyright are breaches of other parties' civil law rights. They have nothing to do with criminal law. You can be sent to prison only after being prosecuted for something. For breaching copyrights, one can only be sued, not prosecuted.

A "lawsuit" is not the same as a "prosecution" (in all countries, I believe).
