Mass Submitting Articles - Good Idea or Big Mistake?

I am asking this question with an open mind and I promise not to start preaching what I believe, whichever way that may be. I am mainly looking for the general consensus.

Do you think mass-submitting articles is a good idea or a bad idea - and WHY?

Thanks for your time!

    Hi Allen,

I don't think it's a good or bad idea. It depends upon ones business plan from my point of view and exactly what and why your are doing it.

Just like most things there are pros and cons.

I've mass submitted and noticed an instant increase in traffic but with a brand new site it could be an issue of too many back links too soon.

Right now I'm not mass submitting. I also think it depends upon which service you use. SubmitYourArticle worked great for me. These days they have a re-write system as well. And your articles are syndicated.

Here are several article I mass submitted some time ago and one can see broken links and other issues in the articles bios. These are not IM related. Back then I had no idea what I was doing. I was just doing something...anything.lol

Just like Dean said, it can be good or bad, depending on your plan of action.

Personally, if I'm targeting a specific niche, I write a few articles, then rewrite them a few times and submit to other article directories, so that way, it's better odds that I rank high on the search engines.

If it's more about building backlinks, then I do more of a mass-submit (well, not really MASS submit, but I don't change the articles content from directory to directory). That way, I can get some much-needed backlinks and help my site itself rank higher in the search engines.

Well, personally, I've never found mass submitting to help a bit, so I don't
know whether it's good or bad. I just know it don't do squat for me.

      So I don't do it.

Wow, Dean...you sucked. LOL, JK! The articles are fine, but your html could have used a tune up.

    Those were the days, huh?

I think most people's plan of action when mass submitting is to get those backlinks, but does anyone think that concentrating on those backlinks actually takes your eyes off the prize (traffic and sales)...and doesn't it show up in your writing?

I'm starting to think it is becoming a bad idea. In the past, you could mass submit and receive some strong banklinks and traffic from the major article directories while getting the benefit of many backlinks from the other directories.

Now, submitting to the major directories still provides strong backlinks and traffic, while the value of backlinks from directories with little or no page rank has decreased significantly with the major search engines, and looks as though it may disappear entirely.

I'm not sure if this is the reason, but it seems that this is the result of article directory overkill. There are just too many article directories watering down their own value.

Yes, those were the good ol days. Kinda humbling to look back now.

That's one issue with mass submission. Some sites have different html styles and you have no control over what your bio will look like on some sites like the example I used to make the point.

I personally think it is a good idea and I've had some good success with it.

With that being said, It's not going to do anything for you if you submit 1000 articles all with the same anchor text and then just go on your way.

I"ve had good success with varying anchor texts and steady submissions. Steady is the key. Here is what I have noticed in my submissions....

You submit an article and whichever service you are using blasts your article out to somewhere between 500 and 1000 different article directories. It's a given that most of them are horrible and you will never see any direct traffic, but that is OK.

Normally, about 3 or 4 days later you will start to see some backlinks trickling in. Out of the whole mass submission, you might get about 100 to "stick" and about half of those will disappear over the next 90 days, but that is why you stay consistent with submissions.

Google seems to love the varied anchor text while Yahoo and MSN are Link whores in the truest sense, at least from what I can tell. So, it is important to vary the anchor text from article to article. Before you know it you have a ton of links all with different anchor texts and you will see your rankings start to go up.

I think people make the mistake of thinking that they can mass submit 2 articles and they are going to get 2000 backlinks and then they will see results right away. What they don't realize is if they stick with a steady submission schedule of 1 or 2 articles a week for several weeks, they will eventually see the results that they were looking for.

However, your not going to mass submit your way to a number one ranking for a keyword like make money online, it seems to work better for true niche type of sites....

I did this a while back, and got a little traffic from it. Overall though, it did not do too much.

I was using an auto-submitter. I provided the article and a piece of software submitted it to hundreds of directories. Most of them had virtually no traffic though, so it was wasted time on the software's part... Just glad I didn't do it by hand

I believed you asked this same question once allen on the old forum. I have been able to build good lists and sales/affiliate sales with mass submission and have seen the noticible difference in seo for anchor text.

With single article submission on isnare (which is mass submission through distribution) i have seen 100 optins in the first 4 days of submission. I have never seen that from single articles that fast from the major article directories which is probably no more than 5. I would not waste my time with single article submission besides ezine articles or associated content unless a new directory comes by and it getting some really high rankings in the search engines that would make it worth it to ride there page ranked by the search engines until i build up traffic on my site alone (again build your own site with the best content not someones elses).

One can argue a good article will do well if we write it for what is should be for and that is to catch eyes.

But the best article placed on the wrong single directory could result in no traffic. Why (search engines don't give that article the placement it needs for maximum exposure or that directory doesn't get the millions of visitors a month that ezine articles get so its no that exposed....)

When i do write a single article the only place i would waste my time and energy would be ezine articles or associated content.

Because as a writer i would rather write it for my site and build my own business than write it for someone else if i wasn't getting exposure, traffic, seo benefits, and of course sales.

Save the best stuff for your own site build your business not someones elses. And if you are going to use articles for traffic only use it in the most highest traffic sites to get the most traffic, sales, and seo benefits...

If i owned a article directory i would preach only do single submission as i would want the content on my site unique so i as the owner could reap the most benefits from the search engines and i would make links no follow as to keep my site seo friendly.

If i am submitting a article and using articles directories. I would want to get the most out of my work.
    1. Mass submission or single submission does not matter the more exposure the better. If you submit one location others will pick it up by sydication or websites using your content. So eventually that article will be used in a few places online and possibly alot of locations. (the aritcle directory that got the first submission will usually not get supplemental results and they will benefit the most) SO LETS GET THE MOST EXPOSURE MASS SUBMIT IT WILL EVENTUALLY BECOME MASS SUBMITTED IF ITS GOOD AS IT WILL BE PICKED UP SO MASS SUBMIT AND GET PICKED UP FASTER

    2. SEO if the pages your article is on usually get a pr 1-3 after the next update and are do follow they have good value for SEO purposes. So this is a plus.. Search engine traffic natural is great

    3. Mass submission exposes you faster! Would you rather submit to one article site like ezine articles that gets millions of visitors or submit to ezine articles and that get millions of visitors and then submit to another 1000 that gets anywhere from 10000 visitors to a half of million. Its a win win.. as you get more exposure.

I will have to say mass submission and submit the unique article singley a week ahead of mass submission to the major article directories so they get indexed first and have higher Search Engine placement.

Save the best content for your site.. Don't build someone elses build your own......

Depending on my plan of action for the articles, I do both mass
submission and normal submission. I have found both methods to
    be effective.

However, even when I mass submit an article, I submit different
versions. I will spin the article and submit different versions.
How many versions I create depends on how many submissions I
    want to make.

If you want to build hundreds of backlinks, you may submit each article to hundreds of article directories.

If you want to grab the top ranking on Google through the article marketing, you only need to submit to 10 top article directories.

Is it good or bad that's depends on the skills, talents and experience of article writer. While somebody is driving 500 visitors per day into his web site via the submission of same article into the 500 article directories, another guy will be driving the same amount of visitors with submitting an only ONE well TEADETED article into the only ONE APPROPIATE article directory.

I personally believe that mass submission isn't a mistake but it wastes
    your time.

I believe that you'll get some juice out of them, but your mileage may vary. So, do I think it's a good idea? The jury is still out, but I do see some low-level value in it for the short term.

I personally tend to submit about every fifth article with mass submission and it's usually not the best article in the pile. I save the good ones for single submissions to authority sites.
Another little quirky thing I do is take snippets of the articles and use them when submitting paid directory links to vary the anchor text. This helps provide a more natural look and feel for big G. (A little more LSI juice if you will...)

Most of them not! But it doesn't hurt neither...... And you get more exposure!!!! and the other search engines count alot more of the links than google does. No matter what as soon as you submit the article other websites will pick it up so you will get a few regardless.....

There is no such thing as single eventually others sites pick it up. The only benefit is for the article directory. The first one that has the content.

I personally think it's a good idea. It's just a little boost to your marketing efforts.

You shouldn't have unrealistic expectations though. I think mass submissions will get you a decent amount of backlinks each time you do it, but not a ton. Also keep in mind that you won't see an immediate or significant boost in traffic from just one mass submission.

for me the jury is still out ...

i had a go at mass submitting once and at the same time one of the sites the articles were pointing to got dropped down the SERPS quite massively ...

was the mass submission the direct cause of the drop in SERPS? I'll never really know ... it was still a new-ish site etc etc ... but that was enough for me to take a break from it for a while ... i may try it again, who knows ...

If its a newish site expect the drop as you get sandboxed by google 98% of sites do. Keep building links and as soon as you come out you will be getting a ton of traffic. Which most people don't realize expecially noobs is when you first get indexed by google you will get quite a bit of traffic only to go done. you will bounce for a few months like 6 or so only to come out getting a ton of traffic... Its a google filter so just keep building you will get where you want don't give up. I will go with mass links as i have dozens that have them and do well... If someone is getting good seo value for single submissions please speak up and show us the link and the site and what words they are ranking for to see what competition it has. But i think very few get this benifit and if someone is getting hundreds or thousand so visitors from a single article submission as far as traffic besides ezine articles and associated content please show some traffic stats if they are killing it with another directory. That they are getting hundreds or thousands of clicks from articles show it.

All in all if single is better please show the stats which i have not seen it from singles article submission. Yes you will get some traffic from the authority sites hence 3-5 sites. So submit there first. Then spin and do mass submission. Start with a single submission to ezine articles. Then spin the content and either use article post robot, insare, article submission pro, and mass submit....

I'm trying to find out what might be the big mistake using mass article submission?

Maybe someone will chine in as to why it would be a big mistake?

Here is an article I wrote that talks about mass article submission and the reason why I was doing it back in 2005. The reason would still apply today if it was part of my business plan. Even if you submit an article to a single article directory "if it's any good" will be picked from webmasters and put on their sites and or blogs anyways.

Take note of how much white space there is in the article body. This single article actually is still generating sales to this day. When you write an article giving 'tips' and 'how to' along with some sort of 'product review' weaved in, it can be very effective. I actually learned this from Willie Crawford when I first did research online within the IM arena...

This was well before the term "bum marketing" was coined by Travis Sago.

Opps! I'm getting off topic here. The point being mass submission does work if you know how to do it right and use the right type of submission service that does not mess up your article bio html links. I used a service once and it was a real waste of my time.

Writing & Submitting Articles - 2 Powerful Ways To Get Laser Targeted Traffic And One Way Back Links

Writing and submitting articles has now become two of the most powerful and effective ways to get laser targeted, on topic traffic to your websites.

Many webmasters are using this technique to gain thousands of one way back links and on topic laser targeted traffic to their niche websites.

These are just two of the many reasons writing and submitting original quality, keyword/phrase optimized content articles is now the latest internet marketing buzz.

Here are the 2 most powerful and effective techniques that you can combine today to really power a successful website with laser targeted traffic are:

      1. Writing and Submitting Quality Content Articles
      2. One Way Back Links

      You already know that right?

Are you writing articles and submitting them using effective article submission services such as SubmitYourArticle and ArticleMarketer?

Many internet marketing experts have been writing articles and submitting articles for many years using these services to help automate and make the process easier.

Submitting articles by hand can be a daunting task to say the least. After a month or two and many hours of submitting, most article marketers realize this fact and find an article submission service to meet their needs.

I've gained well over 100,000 one way back links to niche sites from Google alone. This could not have been accomplished by hand without spending time submitting articles 24/7 around the clock.

When you know the value of submitting original quality content articles and how using the right keywords in your articles will drive laser targeted traffic to your websites from the search engines and article directories, you really can see how powerful this technique becomes over time.

The article submission services that I've used are SubmitYourArticle and ArticleMarketer. They are the top two article submission services available today.

If you're anything like me, getting laser targeted traffic, more leads and more sales from your sites is your main goal. And, like most people, you probably have a tough time getting targeted traffic to your sites month after month. I've spent thousands of dollars on techniques such as pay-per-click, banner ads and eZine solo ads that have not been effective. In several cases it has simply been a learning experience and a big waste of money.

When you write and submit your own article, you can reach thousands of people and attract laser targeted traffic and one way back links to your site. Many Ezine subscribers and most people in general, are really getting sick and tired of advertising. However, they are looking for valuable content and information.

When you provide top quality content and information in the way of articles, the reader is far more receptive because they don't feel that they are reading an ad.

Article submissions are much more cost effective than ezine advertising. A typical solo ad can cost you about $75 for just a one time ad.

The beautiful part about writing and submitting your articles is the fact that they will have a permanent presence on thousands of websites for many years and in some cases forever. Some say that a great article can live longer than the original writer.

Another really sweet thing about submitting your articles with your live, active links to your website in your bio, gives your traffic and sales a very powerful boost.

A great example, if you do a Google search for "Dean Shainin" you'll find links to hundreds of articles that I have written and submitted using these article submission services. Many of these articles continue to bring me long lasting, laser targeted traffic and sales everyday.

There are certain aspects that I like with both SubmitYourArticle and ArticleMaketer. Only you can decide which service is best for your article marketing efforts. I use both article submission services to utilize the advantages of each service most effectively.

So why don't all internet marketers write and submit articles for their internet marketing strategy?

Many marketers want to "get rich quick" and make the mistake of purchasing so called "targeted hits" and other types of advertising for their sites. They soon realize that their efforts are both a waste of money and time.

One way back links are key to helping your websites page rank when indexed by the search engines when you submit articles.

4 Effective Tips To Gain Back Links and Get Targeted Traffic Writing and Submitting Articles

      1. Write articles with quality original content, keyword/phrase rich articles, with links to your website in your resource box.

      2. Build a website or web page with targeted keyword/phrase rich original article content for the targeted traffic that originates from your articles that you submit using the top submission services.

      3. Make sure to use high quality descriptive keywords in the anchor text when you insert your URL using html. This helps your article to get picked up by the search engines.

      4. Try not to sell anything in your resource box at the end of your article. You simply want people to visit your site from the link within the resource box.

Internet marketers that incorporate Google Adsense and or Affiliate Marketing with writing and submitting articles are making money hand over fist using this effective internet marketing strategy.

4 Effective Tips To Get Started Writing and Submitting Articles

      1. Keyword Research. Find popular niches and keywords/phrases, using a keyword selector and suggestion tool.

      2. Writing Articles. Write original quality content articles with keywords from your niche research.

      3. Build Quality Content Sites. Build an original quality article content site incorporated with Google Adsense and or Affliliate Marketing products and services that are related to the niche of the articles you submit.

      4. Research an article submission service that will fit your budget and that will be effective for your type of article marketing efforts.

Only you can take advantage of this powerful way to get laser targeted traffic and one way back links to your sites by writing and submitting articles.

The top marketers like me are using this technique everyday to build long term laser targeted traffic and one way back links to our sites.

There really is very little you can do that will give you near the same type of powerful results as writing and submitting articles.

You can vary a lot of things with APR, and the author/bio is one of them. This means you can have as many different anchor texts as you want. Great piece of software, that has recently been updated.

I posted this answer in another thread but decided to also post it here in case it was missed in the smaller thread:

As someone that has been using article marketing exclusively to run my online business I can tell you first hand that I've had success both with mass submissions and with single article directory submissions.

However, I believe the best results come from a hybrid approach where you focus on a select group of top tier article directories combines with some blogs and some additional web 2.0 sites such as Squidoo, Yahoo Answers, hubpages, Youtube...etc

Additionally, I personally like to have all of these articles vary their content slightly while simultaneously still focusing in on the same keyword phrases and utilizing the same article title.

    Respectfully,

    Personally, I don't think mass-submitting is helpful.

Most of the traffic and link-juice will be from the top
sites that Google are in love with like EZA anyway.

It's probably more effective and efficient to mass-bookmark
the articles from sites like EZA than to mass-submit to
    hundreds of random article directories.

    That's just my personal view.

There is already way too much automation going on. You can now mass submit to article directories, forums, blogs, website directories, social networks, etc.... It's a big mass out there...Sorry had to say it.
