If you have a PC (vs a Mac) Windows Movie Maker is an easy program to master for simple videos. It comes bundled on a lot of Windows software versions and is easy to find online if it's not on your PC. Just Google Windows Movie Maker for (insert your Windows version here).

The newest version, Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 is out now if you are using Windows 7. Windows XP needs the 2.1 version of WMM and Vista needs the 2.6 version of WMM.

PowerPoint is also a good way to create videos if you have a screen capture software such as Camtasia (paid) or Camstudio (free).

Thanks Bill, I have the movie maker 2.1 and when I tried to use it at one time I could not upload my videos for some reason, I was having all kinds of problems with it. Could I just take images and text to create a video with movie maker?

      Denise,

WMM produces .wmv files that cannot be widely used on the internet. If you can convert them to .mpeg4 (or equiv) files you can do a lot with them.

Here's a link to a free .wmv to .mp4 converter you could at least look at and perhaps try. I haven't used this software as I have a suite of softwares that can handle the job. Anyway, check it out...

Free MP4 Video Converter: convert video to MP4 with video to MP4 converter for iPod, iPhone, PSP, etc!

Be sure to read their TOS carefully. They are easy - but not cheap.

Camtasia will set you back $300. Camstudio is free. The big difference is that CamStudio doesn't have the editing capabilities that are built into Camtasia. But you can achieve the same results by recording your videos with CamStudio and editing in Windows Movie maker. Depending on your needs, you may also want to check out Jing - it is offered as both a free and pay service and makes video sharing very easy.

Create a useful tutorial on a commonly searched for subject related to the niche targeted by your website and put a url to your website in the description as well as one in text across the bottom of the video.

This could be a live motion video of you creating or showing how to use something, it could be a screen capture, or it could be as simple as sitting in front of a web cam ans sharing some useful info.

The key is to target search terms because youtube is one of the most popular search engines in the world. Long tail keywords are also easily targeted on google.

Posting Animoto videos are not as effective unless the content is directly related to a search term like a review for a specific product so if you are creating videos for your own products to target traffic from the video sharing sites make it useful content that people are searching for and likely to watch for the value of the information.

Apologies but I disagree with camtasia and bothering with any screencapture, how does that convey the subject?

NetworkMom had a site about kids fitness equipment, what I want to see is energetic videos of kids jumping around and moms talking about the gear. People on screen, personality, authentic reviews and tips.

Upbeat videos with kids do well on youtube, also if she wants to reach out to where her market is (mommybloggers) she needs good useful and entertaining content so the will get embedded. Not overly advertising and something to connect eye to eye with the audience.

so i'd suggest using a Flip (the new 3rd gen ultra hd 8gb has a flip port and can take mics) or the discounted kodak zi8 (phono mic input)

with the Flip you have flipshare in built and can add a title and make simple trims and uplaod to youtube - it gets no simpler, also youtube now has its' own editor to do similar.

otherwise yes windows moviemaker, or imovie to edit something a little more intricate.
