Can anyone offer advice on article marketing

I'm relatively new to IM and have been using article marketing for about 2 months now. I've submitted about 40 articles to 8 article directories and so far have only made 1 sale.

I have some questions and hope can get good advice here.

1) i notice that my articles on average get about 30 views in the first week of posting on Ezines and that's about it. They get even lesser views on other article directories. How can i improve my articles views?
I have my title appear once in the first paragraph and at least once more in the article body.

2) how does article marketing works? besides being able to show up on the search engines to get more views?

i'm also trying to build a list and to date it's pathetic. only 3 opt ins.

3) Is it advisable to start with just article marketing or are there any better ways of doing it? I've tried PPC: adwords, yahoo, Ask, only to lose money.

In the month of Nov I have driven about 170 visitors to my site. I know that's definitely not enough to make sales. How can i drive more traffic using article marketing?

    to improve the view to your articles try backlinking them, this should increase the position in the search engines bringing more traffic and submit your ezine feeds to rss directories to increase exposure. I'm sure someone else will chip in with some more good ideas

      Make sure the titles you use in your articles are something people would search for, you can use the adwords tool to do that. Then see how many websites are competing for the exact title you are using by putting your title in Google with quotation marks around the title.

      You might also want to make sure the top 10 sites on Google don't have 1,000's of backlinks and pages, because they will be hard to beat. Then do what kezan98 recommended, after that just keep writing, if you do all that you should start to see a big improvement, but only if you are consistent. It will take a lot of article, but you can get there.

      I am really going to bore you now, but I think this might help you stay with it. I am sure you have heard of the price is right , well I like to call this story the price is wrong. You see there were these 3 doors and some one said there was a lot of money behind them. Well 1,000's of people came and they tried to open door #1, but after a couple of days there were just a few people still trying to open door #1. After 2 weeks they got door #1 opened and guess what no money.

      So then they went to work on door #2, but there were even less people working on door #2 so it took them 2 months, but they finally got the door open and can you guess what was behind that door, I bet you can, NOTHING! Well that was the last straw they all gave up, except for one guy. He alone decided to try door #3.

      Ofcourse by now his family and friends were all coming around laughing at him, but now after 5 months of trying to open these doors they were calling him crazy and he was, by now he was crazy in love with opening doors, the guy loved it, I mean why else would he do it.

      Finally after 8 months door #3 cracked open just a little, but this time something came out, can you guess what it was, JUST ONE DOLLAR! The guys friends were rolling on the floor laughing, but that didn't stop our friend, he continued on another two months and finally the door flung wide open. You know it's been six years since door #3 was opened and money hasn't stopped coming out yet.

      I don't know what happened to that guy, can't seem to remember his name. I think it was tristteo or something like that, but I wonder what his family and friends think of him now, I'm sure he got the last laugh though, what do you think.

    Hi! Hmmm...
    1. Views... Catchy, attention grabbing titles perhaps? Social bookmarking and Twitting your articles could also increase views as well as contributing useful and timely info/advice relevant to the problems and needs of people in forums with discussions relevant to your topics and keywords, pointing your target keyword anchors to your articles or to the content pages of your site when your content provides relevant benefits to those people that are not found on those discussion pages of those forums.
    2-3. Hope you could find any use from a few points in my post here...
