National Lampoon bought my Obama joke blog.

Several months ago I saw someone at Namepros selling a domain, BarackObamaJokes.com for $10. So, I decided to buy it and make a quick blog out of it, put some youtube videos on it, some other jokes I founds and see what happens.

Well, it got some traffic and made a few bucks. So I put it up for sale on sitepoint and I sold this blog a few months ago for maybe $300 I think it was.

I noticed in paypal that National Lampoon had bought it! This was a little surprising to me, to think National Lampoon would be on sitepoint looking for websites to buy. But it makes sense. Why not?

Anyways, I kept checking it out and they didn't do anything to the site until about a week ago. They finally changed it.

BTW, I still have BarackObamaJoke.com also. hehe

Hey Tim, great foresight in picking up the domain in the first place!

Wonder if it would have been worth hanging onto it, do you think you could have got more for it now?

But then that's always the big question, when is the best time to sell?

Yeh, that's always a question. But this is a pretty small Obama niche. I don't think the traffic could ever get that big unless someone comes up with some great original content. I doubt I would have since I'm not a comedic genius, but maybe National Lampoon will.

Plus, I have the other domain. :-)

But, the thing is, I didn't know it was national lampoon asking about the site. It kind of reminds me of a few months ago when I saw AC360.com sell on sedo for something like $13,000 and I was watching the auction live wondering who would pay $13,000 for this domain. Well, it was CNN who paid that much. Now, it's the domain name for Anderson Cooper's 360 news show. How much would they have paid for THAT domain? :-0

Wow, that's very cool. Good foresight!

It'll be interesting to see how that site evolves over the next several years.

BTW - I can't wait to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation again this year. I love that movie.

I've started checking into the whole domain name flipping thing. I've never been familiar with it. I'm going to check out sitepoint.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
Did you find out how much national lampoon paid for it?

They probably would have paid $3000 or $30,000 for it.

Do you know if it was National Lampoons who bought from you or did they buy from the person who purchased from you?

Actually, they talked me down a bit. I don't think they would have paid much more as it wasn't making that much and didn't have that much traffic. I spent probably 30 minutes on the site. In fact, I just noticed they still have most of my posts there.

Yes, the paypal payment was from a national lampoon email address. Heck, they may be lurking around here in the warrior forum since they have a small network and probably want to learn about internet marketing.
