Press the key on your keyboard that says prtsc - then open up Word or Paint or another graphics program and click on paste to paste the screenshot into the program.

Or use the Windows built-in snipping tool - or a tool such as handysnap

Hit the cool button on your keyboard that says Prnt Scrn, which is usually found in the top right.

You can then paste said screenshot in Paint, Photoshop, or any image editing software of your choice.

If you have Vista or 7, the snipping tool mentioned is the simplest and best I have ever used. The quick way to get to it is the start button, then type snipping tool. It is at the top of the list of suggestions by the time I get sn typed.

Click in one corner of the part you want to capture and then in the diagonally opposite corner, let go and any rectangular shape is captured.

  • If you want to take a screenshot of an entire webpage (not just what's visible on your screen) you can use the FireShot plugin for Firefox. Works well.

The snipping tool and the print screen buttons only capture what is visible. I use a program called snagit.

download Google Chrome - it's a great browser and it has a little camera icon in the upper right corner that will capture the screen. It gives you the option to capture the viewable area or the whole page. then it has a built in editor that allows you to modify the image and save it to your hard drive - all without ever leaving the browser! Most people don't even know that feature exists in Chrome, but once you do, you'll use it all the time.

Thanks for telling me about that. It's not a built-in feature - it's an extension that you can download from here https://chrome.google.com/extensions...hgiakhnjcddpki

All you have to do is hit the print screen button on your keyboard that is just about the insert key. Than go to your default paint program and hit Edit->Paste

When you get to the page or image you want, simply press the "Prtsc" button on your keyboard. Doing this takes a print screen of what is displayed on your screen.

Then all you need to do is open an image editing program on your computer, go to the menu area and paste it as a new image. You can then slice out the areas of the image you don't need.

It's funny how similar threads seem to magically materialize here at around the same time, since there is another recent thread in here that asks an almost identical question.

If you want to take a screenshot of the entire screen, then the Prnt Scrn button will do just fine. However, if you want to only capture a user-defined area of your screen/desktop, then you can use the nifty screen capture tool built into the free Jarte word processor - FREE Word Processor Based on Microsoft's WordPad Engine
