In addition to filtering content for keywords, ISP's now use your "reputation" as well. In fact, according to Return Path, more than 80% of email delivery problems are caused by the sender's email reputation. Your email sending reputation includes: 1. maintaining a clean list: processing bounces properly, removing duplicates, suppressing accounts with info@, sales@, etc and removing addresses with no opens or clicks in the last 12 months 2. display optin info in email to remind them they chose to receive your email 3. use email authentication like DomainKeys, Sender Policy Framework or Sender ID. These are "handshakes" with the ISP's to let them know the email is coming from you not phishing or spoofing. 4. don't send too often where the recipient will become annoyed and click spam even if it isn't. 5. make sure your email looks good in all email clients. if not sure, use text only at 60 characters per line. Or, HTML width=500. Enjoy! Dave |
