Targeting Foreign Speaking Searchers Abroad

OK, so I have a new client that is wanting to target overseas people that search in their home language. The thing is I have only ever targeted English speaking searchers before.

I was wondering whether I should get specific content translated into various languages and then target backlinks from sites based in their country.

OR would it be mush simpler to implement language translation into the site and not worry about doing it manually?

Any tips on this matter would be really great and would certainly help me keep the client happy!

    I highly recommend paying someone to do it. Automated translations are friggin' horrible! Completely unreadable.

    There's a Wordpress plugin WordPress › Worldwide Lexicon Translator « WordPress Plugins that will integrate with the Professional translation service from SpeakLike. This allows translation to and from 35 languages for as little as 6 cents per word.
