How many times you tweet a day?

Twitter is one of the best ways to generate traffic. Anyone can tell how many time we should tweet and how often, in order to increase traffic?

      Dear Jayzee,

At the start, i tweet a lot but to put it in a fixed figure, i would say an average of 5 tweets daily, give and take. If you want to increase your presence in Twitter, get on Twitter daily to add targeted followers and tweet.

Tip : Use a tweet scheduler like from Tweetdeck(free) & schedule your Tweets. Depending on the time zone of the people you want to get to follow.

      Cheers

    Do you use Posterous?

It is my preferred method of getting tweets into Twitter at the same time I am updating a few traffic funnel blogs, Flickr, Picasa, YouTube, etc.... The AutoPost function is very cool.

I try to make sure I have content being scattered around to my traffic funnel sites at least 5-10 times per day through Posterous which creates a Tweet each time.

I hit Twitter daily and add approximately 50 people I manually select due to "who they follow". The follow back rate is not extremely high, but they usually are ones who stick.

I do a similar thing on my Facebook pages.

I do about 20 tweets a day at the moment; one quote, one internet marketing tip and then one promo tweet... then repeat those three again but with a unique tweet each time.

I'd say, if you use your twitter account only for indexing your sites, you can tweet even 100 times a day. Not with fresh new account of course. But if you also implement massfollowing strategy and some real humans follow you, then you must keep yourself within max. 10 posts a day. Nobody wants spamer in his feed.

I used to tweet like that, nearly 100 times a day, so my account was suspended and its still in the suspension mode lol.

I personally think Twitter is a waste of time. No one reads tweets. A recent study showed that people tweet about themselves and never read other people's tweets. However, that's just my opinion.

I share that opinion. However, after reading more in this thread, I will try to look at twitter from an IM viewpoint, rather than a personal one. If I can give value to my followers, who I assume are customers or potential customers, then it is worth my time.

It's good to tweet 10 to 20 times a day but not the same thing, if you have a product you are promoting, then you tweet about it, then tweet a useful tip and something else. Value is key here. If you tweet value, people will look forward to your tweets and will be more likely to follow you/ click on your links.

Here's what I find is effective on Twitter...

    - Follow only those that show an interest in your niche. The best way to do this is by finding someone that looks like an expert in your niche and seeing who is following them.
    - Make sure you only follow those that have a genuine photo and description. In other words, try to follow real people
    - Use a free service like SocialOomph to automatically follow those that follow you and have an automated direct message inviting your new followers to also follow you on Facebook (with your FB link included)

What I've found is that on the days that I'm active on Twitter (e.g. following others and tweeting good content, mixed with offers) I'll get a lot of new Facebook friends.

With Facebook you can really connect and build a relationship.

Well, the first time I used Twitter. I was like tweeting every thing that I do and you know stuffs like "stalking" celebrities. But the Twitter thing had revolutionized already as a powerful IM tool. We can get decent amounts of traffic by tweeting and targeting specific niches. 5-10 tweets is reasonable enough or as long as the site has a new content.

In my opinion the best is one tweet a day. The important thing here is not quantity but quality. It's important that your tweets should be interesting and engaging. If you haven't got anything worthwhile to say then don't tweet just for the sake of Tweeting. It's important to avoid spamming your followers with boring Tweets. Because then they'll either unfollow you or simply ignore your tweets.

  • Doesn't seem worth it to me.

I tweet probably 3 times a day - always good content! Sometimes it works out and people click, sometimes nothing happens - but I wouldn't get the clicks otherwise.

I've had a couple thousand followers that all joined me organically (I didn't just follow everyone) in about 4 months. From what many people say that seems pretty good.

Problem is I find it very time consuming for the results.

Think about it like this, even if I somehow I made every single one of my followers click a link. That's only 2000 new visitors to my website - still nothing to write home about.

And the time it takes to create new followers? Man.. Unless it's automated I would much rather produce quality content via a different means.. That's for sure.

Twitter is something young people do for fun, it's also a novelty amongst adults at the moment. To be honest, I'm still not sure about the future of Twitter - so I don't waste much time with it.

JayZee, there is no such number of tweets you should do per day. But I read somewhere 15-20 tweets per day are most effective.

Don't tweets at same time, post few tweets 2-3 time a day eg: 4 morning, 10 afternoon, 8 Night. This help you stay connected with followers whole day.

Follower generally don't on your link, you have to use Call To Action words like "Check This Video" etc. Also if you keep posting links to your website followers will soon start ignoring your tweets because a) You are marketing your website too much b) You are not having conversation with them.

Share few personal details like tweet if you get a new car, tweet if you went on tour, share your tour pics etc.

Most Important RULE: Apply 80:20 Rule with twitter too, 80% Interacting with followers & 20% promote your stuff.

    Cheers!!

Hi Jayzee. Twitter is a good/decent way to generate traffic. For me it's nothing special. This forum is better. Facebook is better. With Twitter you're limited to 140 characters per Tweet. Also, It's definitely harder to build relationships/to get people to call you with your followers on Twitter.

As far as Tweets go, I like to add value. I might put out 10-20 Tweets in a day, but about three-quarters of them are inspirational and motivational... non-sales Tweets.

    To Your Success,
    Brad Marcus

I believe if you're going to be active on Twitter, that you shouldn't just Tweet to Tweet for Tweetings sake. If you're going to be a member of the community - then Tweet to engage, to connect. Don't use auto tweets - they are no way to interact with your followers. If someone responds to your autotweet - it's like their talking to a robot at a party. They won't get an answer and they'll quickly find someone else to talk to.

I manage my time wisely on Twitter and will hop on for a few minutes a day, Tweet, interact and leave. I think it's fine to promote on Twitter and it can be successful, as long as you're also helpful, re-tweet others and play nice.

IMO, Twitter is no different than any other method of communication -- Email, Facebook posts, phone calls, mail.

If you bombard your followers you will be ignored or deleted.

Just because it's easy doesn't mean you should do it constantly.

      Scarcity increases value.

I may tweet between 5-15 times a day. It depends on the content. Some is personal, but a lot is tweeting interesting articles or blogs I'm reading. It only takes a few seconds to tweet the content, you're helping to promote the blogger and you're providing value to your followers. If I don't have anything valuable to say or share, I don't tweet.

The trick with twitter is getting your tweet retweeted by somebody who has a huge active following and is pretty popular. This requires relationship building.

Example, you make a post about why as a woman you don't need a man and Jennifer Anniston(Who you built a relationship with) sees it and retweets it so all the fangirls see it.

That is the key. Making sure that what you tweet is interesting otherwise you could be doing more damage than good as people will stop following you. There is no point in tweeting for tweets sake!
