Google Places New Format - Has It Hurt Your Business?

Has Google Places new format affected your business significantly? I have used local marketing to establish a position in a marketplace BEFORE we get into that market. Being pushed way down the page is killing me. It has to be hurting the local business person as well.

Has anyone figured out a way to be listed in Google Places with the same 800 number (or phone number) in different markets?

I have yet to see anyone figure out how Google ranks these local businesses in GP definitively. Have you? If so, what person or product does this? I have tried to stay on top of this.

I've been having some difficulty here as well. I've got an amazon site working a specific line of high end electronics. My traffic has dropped significantly for my main keywords since google introduced their shopping results section. Also wierd is sometimes I get map locations for places to buy these products. As this is my best performer yet, I just have to soldier on and keep doing what I do. Write, backlink, write, backlink. Hopefully one of these days I'll get the coveted sitelinks google entry.

We have not even tried with the same 800. We are avoiding 800 numbers totally and going only with local numbers. If a client doesn't have a local number, we will get them one...

We believe that even if you do get a 800 # ranked, the competitors with local #'s will have an extreme advantage. You'd have to imagine Google will be favoring local numbers even more heavily in the future. To set up for long term success, local #'s are the way to go. Good luck
