Wondering if my Marketing / Branding attempt is a good idea or not??

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here. I've heard of this forum in my home forum (SBI) but Geeshhh I didn't know it was this good!!!

Well, I've got this site that I started working on about a year and some change ago and there is just one thing that I've never been able to put my finger on about whether it's the most clever and greatest catch phrase or if it's holding me back. (although my home page bounce rate is pretty low such as a consistent 50%-60% but daily can go as low as 15%)

What I am talking about is the Headline just above my home page's H1 and can be seen here: (unable to post link: Please just add .com to my user name)

What do Y'all think about it?? (especially considering the type of audience I am targeting)??

Does anyone think this could be killing my site or is it a good memorable, comical catchy phrase????

Sometimes people seem like they truly like my site and sometimes people are like Whoaaaaaaaa, Umm let me get back to you.... (This happens frequently when I try to reach out to a potential advertiser on the phone and inquire about them advertising on my site. They usually say: Oh, We may be able to do something with you... What's the name of your site?? (at this point I can hear them typing and then.... Whoaaaaaaaa, Umm let me get back to you.... What's up with this??????? Is it my "Catchy headline"?? Should it stay or go?? What do ya'll think???

Any help on this from an experienced marketer will be greatly appreciated

Thanks a bunch in advance

Stuart

I like the phrase, and I think this is something you can build on. I think it is important that we see an "adrenaline fix" (or 2-3) above the fold. I would move that google adsense somewhere more into the content area and shift everything up, so you can show a couple of video links, etc. sooner to draw the user's attention.

Then I would try to find some way to make the site more interactive such as installing a comments system like Disqus as well as make it easy for people to Tweet and Like the articles/videos.

Wow DvDuval... That was a great help. (I was wanting to keep my ATC comment above my H1 but I just wasnt sure about it. "Thanks"!!)

I would like to ask you a couple things though... (BTW, you should notice the page moved up but it may take my server a little while to update)

I'm not exactly sure what Disqus is but I would like to invite you to take a look at something on my site and tell me if this is the kind of thing you may be referring to: When on my site... If you click the navbar button that says: "Sponsorship Resources"... Then at the bottom of that page you will see 3 links for each of the 3 disciplines that I am targeting... If you click any of those you will see an interactive page I have built for each discipline. Is that probably sufficient (for now) or should I be doing something else as well??

      Thanks again!!

Edit: Oh yea... What about the type of response I recieve from some (most) people?? Is it just that I keep finding the one's who must have spilled their coffee that morning???? (doubtful I'm thinking because it happens regularly)

      Thanks again

Your site looks really good. The graphics are clear and they fit your niche. But it can do with some minor improvements:
    A. At first sight it's not clear what the site is about; what niche it's dealing with. I suggest you add a line in the banner or below the banner, describing the niche of your site.
    B. The home page is too cluttered up; too much text and too many pictures.

Thanks everyone and I do appreciate your help very much so dvduval but I would like to make it publicly known that I would really like to get as many opinions as possible on the word art above my 1st H1 (what it says) I have been keeping what it says on the down low and I ask that others do as well. Please just refer to it as ATC. I dont want my site's KW's to start ranking in the forum and things about my site to show up in the SERPS if you know what I mean.

I do ask though... "Please" carefully read my 1st post on this topic. I'm really interested in as many opinions as possible on this whole thing about what it says below my header and above my H1

Thanks a bunch in advance everyone!!

I agree with flowers4love that the homepage is too cluttered with too much text and pictures that don't flow.

About the ATC phrase, I didn't 'get it' and it didn't stand out and grab me. To me A is a negative word and that is something that I would steer clear of in branding - that said I do understand you using this to be different in your branding but like I said I just didn't 'get it'. I'm certainly not in your target market though. Another thing about the A word if you do keep this phrase is that I would consider using a simpler word with a similar meaning. With a short catchy phrase I just don't think antagonizing is memorable enough - keep it simple to keep it memorable.

In regards to the advertisers who have a negative reaction to the site I would politely ask them what the first thing is about the site that made them have that reaction (obviously worded better but you get the gist)
