Did you ever think you would be doing this?

Building backlinks, selling infoproducts, article marketing, etc. Did you ever think you would end up as an Internet Marketer?

And, more importantly, is this where you want to be now?

Myself, I would rather make my living publishing books, creating music, and designing video games.

Everyone here has their own interests, and things that they love doing.

If you weren't in IM, what would you do for a living?

I would never have thought of it 3 years ago. Now I see it as my retirement fund while I do all the things I want to do.

BTW Publishing books is a rich income stream within IM.

My grad degree was in Finance, so we did study marketing and some of these principles are universal, meaning that they pretty much apply to IM as well. If I weren't in IM, I'd probably something to do with real estate, finance/stock trading, cars and computers. There are so many diverse things you could do within these fields, and I haven't really defined exactly what I'd want/like to do, but I think I'd be pretty happy if it were within these areas. There's a pretty good chance I'd diversify to at least one of these areas in a year or two, once I get things outsourced in my IM.

No I NEVER thought I would end up doing IM, I've been a fashion designer for 3 years making a living off running my own label and selling it through my own online store but it's a very tough industry and very up and down.

So I decided to take a year or two off from that, build up an income through IM that will eventually mostly run on auto pilot and then go back to the fashion industry when I have a stable IM income to use as my safety net.

Getting into IM solely has certainly taught me ALOT that will benefit my online fashion business when I go back to it.

I went to school to become a physical therapist! Moved to the internet, and now work full-time as a manager/owner of Ecommerce stores and affiliate marketing sites. As for what I want to be doing...this is it!

A lot of interesting stories here. Myself, I wouldn't want to do IM full-time forever. But the skills I've learned will be invaluable for other ventures.

This sounds like me, I started just intending to earn a small income to supplement a retirement pension. I'm not doing so hot, and I may die trying, but trying I will continue.

This business is the most mind challenging thing a person of senior years can do . I love the challenge, I'd like some income to go with it. LOL

I'll be doing IM and teaching others for a long time because I feel like it's that rewarding.

Besides that, I'd love to start a charity where we give away a trip once a year for a family to go anywhere they've ever dreamed of in the world, all expenses paid.

I feel like everyone deserves to experience what the world has to offer.

  • Hi Joshua! Hmmm... No, I did not think about being an Internet marketer 6 years ago, though I was an independent offline marketer of physical products, tech (computer & mobile phone hardware and software programming/configuration/installation/troubleshooting/networking/server configuration/database management and maintenance) services and English communications (speech and writing) tutorial services which my friends and neighbors resold as my affiliates 12 years ago, when I was 18. Otherwise, if I thought about being an Internet marketer 6 or even 12 years ago, I would've started doing this at that time.

If I weren't an Internet marketer, I think I'd be a professional bass player selling things and services to my friends and neighbors which they can resell as my affiliates for commissions per sale.

I'm not an internet marketer; I simply have an online business. I'm a doctor, a teacher and a writer. If I could completely disregard the financial aspect of my work I would prefer writing poems, without treating mental illnesses and giving lessons, or caring about link building, marketing, etc.

In my work I'm usually in contact with people who have problems, mental illnesses, etc. This is a very sad occupation. Necessary, but sad. It was not my choice; it was my destiny.

Now I'm caring about internet marketing as if it was a hobby. This field is so easy, compared with mental health! Everyone cares about making money online. So, I'm writing a few articles about how to make money online, now that I've learned enough, and giving full rights to my customers.

However, I have no time to write articles about IM because I keep writing articles for my own business and translating dreams for the public. And as soon as I finally manage to write one about IM, I sell it. So, I have no articles for sale. My portfolio has only a few articles already sold.

Wish I could write poems all day as I used to do when I was a teen.

I would be traveling to many places and meet with businessmen, discussing some matters about my business and theirs. I always love to go outside and meet people personally.

But for now, I still have to pursue my studies while earning some income through the Internet. Internet is indeed a vast area of opportunities to all of us.

    Haha not at all man..

I grew up an artist and focused heavily on art/illustration all throughout school and college, while working part time at a Barnes & Noble.

It was randomly stocking books one day that I came across a book on affiliate marketing, and from then on I was suckered in.

It's such a huge jump too. But, having considered the dismal outlook of a post-college fine arts career, I took the plunge. Over a year later it started paying off

The thought of making money just by being infront of the computer all day was probably why i ended up as an IMer. Dont think there would be anything else i would do. Love IM too much!

  • In fact, I stumbled onto IM by chance back in 2007. Back then, I had a hobbyist blog where I blogged about my own personal hobby. There was no adsense, no banners, no affiliate links... it was just a pure hobbyist site.

However, I soon realized that, due to my growing traffic, there was a money-making opportunity there, which is how I began Googling stuff like "how to monetize my site", and so was how I discovered terms like "squeeze pages", "affiliate offers", "autoresponder mailing lists", etc.

So I began implementing a few IM-focused changes into my blog and the first dollars started to pour in... and the rest is history.

I'm SO glad I found IM by chance because it fits my lifestyle perfectly (traveling, flexible schedule, etc), plus money is 10 times better than in any other 9-to-5 job! Quite frankly, I dont think I would want to do anything else than IM (other than being a Hollywood star, or an astronaut, or platonic stuff like that).

PS: if there's just one thing I kind of miss as a full time IM'er is the social aspect. Let's be frank: this is a "lonely wolf" type of activity, and while I dont consider myself a prom queen, I still miss some human interaction with pals and colleagues. As a full-time IMer, you do end up spending most of your day at home, alone in front of the computer, and that sometimes takes its toll on me.

I never really imagined I would do this ... but I've been the type that never really knew what I wanted to be "when I grew up". I've always loved building projects, working with my hands since I was a kid ... so I went to art school. Graduated with a degree in sculpture and "new genres" (performance, video, etc). Talk about the worst degree possible when trying to get a job after school! haha

I worked as a sign maker for a few years and enjoyed the hands on experience, but hated working for someone and would rather zone out with my headphones and work late at night instead of fixing someone else's mistakes at 7:00 in the morning. That didn't fly too well.

I started creating Youtube videos showing some cool projects I've built and started selling tutorials showing how to do them. Started learning about IM then and kinda built up from there into a few other things. I look at it as having fun everyday doing something I enjoy and refuse to work with a stick up my butt and a boss over my shoulders.
