Those numbers will change. Google when never show "all" of your links.

Yap, that's right. Google never show all of your backlinks. Maybe the commented posts are not index, or get sandbox and the others reason.

I find the number of links shown go up & down at times too.

The links are still on the site but when checking in Yahoo for example not all will show up.

Your doing fine, I add and lose links all the time. Just keep on doing what your doing and don't stress too much if they stay long or not.

Google will always show only a portion of your existing links.

You have left a big hole in your story though...

Is Google not counting your links? Or, is the site owner deleting your comments?

If the latter, the blog owner does not have to have a reason to delete your comments, other than they don't want your comments shared.

Keep at it; I've seen the same thing others have mentioned here. The .gov and .edu backlinks are awesome, but also focus on the number of unique IPs linking to you. Article marketing (or a good PR) could help you get more backlinks from more IPs.

If the site owners are deleting them you are trying to get backlinks from the wrong places. Concentrate on getting backlinks from sites that really want your input and/or content.

I'm still learning about backlinking, and I'm glad I came across this! I had no idea how to find out how many backlinks you have.

Other than article marketing, how do you guys recommend getting backlinks? Where are some good places to put PRs?

I am responding to blogs that are related to my website and offer a website URL. I have only done a hypertext direct link to my website, but only after noticing that two previous posts had done the exact same thing.

Many of the posts are from articles more than 1 &1/2 years old. I am using SEOBOOK to track my stats. I can't afford Market Samuri yet. The links themselves are Yahoo page lings so I don't know how Google is tracking them.

I need to start submitting articles. I'm doing that tonight. I've done about 6 RSS feed's. From what I gather it will take a month or two before I see tangible results, but I feel like I am finally doing something that I am somewhat passionate about, so I'm hoping that helps as my site is an associate site for Amazon.
