What Is Exchange Proccess For Selling A Domain?

Hey guys, I just received a good offer for a website. $2000+ and this site makes around 100$ per month. I think it's a decent offer.

What is the exact exchange process so I would get $2000 and then I would transfer the domain + all the website to the buyer?

I've heard something about reseller hosting - but not sure how it works exactly.

I've read that if the buyer pays via paypal after the transfer he can ask for a refund and paypal in some cases will favor the buyer.

How can I insure myself so stuff like this wouldn't happen?

Would it be wise before selling to the buyer - list the domain on the flippa and see what kind of offers I am getting?

Many Thanks

I always write in my terms that I do not accept refunds and that I will hold the domain name for 45 days (to avoid paypal reversal).

If you do get a dispute from paypal, call paypal and tell them the item is intangiable, they will then give no refund. Digital goods are not covered for buyers!

I wish a knew this tip a few months ago. I was selling my PR3 site and got ripped off. The fraudulent buyer REVERSED paypal payment after I had transferred domain name and paypal was NO help whatsoever. Next time around I will definitely do a 45 day hold or avoid using paypal all together!!

Owen covers the refund point well.

In terms of the transfer, you have two aspects to consider:
    1. Domain transfer
    2. Website transfer

Domain transfer is fairly simple depending on who your registrar is. If it's Godaddy, you can actually call them, & they'll walk you through the whole process.

As for website transfer, it'll largely depend on your familiarity with website installation, as well as whether it's a blog or not. If its a blog, the process can be quite simple. But give me a bit more information in order for me to advice something that'll be more suitable for you.

Rather than using PayPal, I strongly suggest you use escrow.com for the transaction. There is no possibility of a forced refund or chargeback that way.

    Here's transfer instructions.

In regards to Paypal reversals ... you could protect yourself by using Escrow.com for the transaction. If you don't do that, either hold the domain until Day 46 and/or send him the website via Certified Mail on CD. It then becomes a physical product and is protected by Paypal.

The cost is very minimal with escrow.com, but you can split that cost automatically with the buyer to reduce your cost even more. I almost always do this and have never once had a buyer complain.

I believe Gene Pimentel's suggestion is the best and more professional way to go.
However, if for some reason you go with PayPal, I'll go like "sbucciarel" mentioned
sending the website via Certified Mail on CD and also holding the domain until day 46.
