How to convert .mov to .avi (or flash)??

I'm sure I can get a great answer here :-)

I want to convert .mov (quicktime) to flash. But I'm fairly certain that I need to convert to .avi first.

I have Camtasia 3 which will convert .avi to flash. But the only free application I've found to convert .mov to .avi left a one line ad for the name of the converter for the first few seconds on the vid!

The videos I'm converting will be PLR, so I don't want that ad showing and don't have time to edit it out of course.

Anyone know of a free application that I can use for this?

Thanks Warriors!
Dave

    Hi Dave,

There's no need to convert .mov to .avi before converting to .flv - unless that's the only combination of free encoders you can find.

I wouldn't recommend using a free Flash encoder even if you can find one. All Flash video is NOT created equal! I would use Sorenson Squeeze for Flash to go from .mov to .flv . Do it just about every day. Squeeze creates Flash video that looks good even while the file size is reduced dramatically from the Quicktime version.

Seems I remember that ON2's Flix encoder offered a free trial. The interface is not as good as Squeeze, but it can produce pretty good results. After all, ON2 Technologies is the source of the VP6 Flash video codec.

Thanks guys. I'm looking into these resources

To clarify, I'm looking to ultimately convert to .swf flash instead of .flv. But I don't think I can go directly from .mov (quicktime) to .swf, can I?

If I'm right, then all I need is to convert to .avi, then of course I can use Camtasia to easily convert to .swf.

Ok, off to check out what you've passed along so far.

I also forgot to say that the videos I want to convert are screen capture, not live action.

Another option to video charge studio is Total Video Converter...Its really a great tool and can convert almost all format into all..
Here's the link to official site --> effectmatrix.com/total-video-converter/

Otherwise there is one named Super Converter..It can also convert any format to any..The best thing about it is that its a freeware but its really very messy and some conversion takes lots of system resource.

Why would you convert something already in .mov to swf for flash video instead of flv? Seems a little silly.

Why not use the quicktime player to export the already superior .mov format to a universal standard of h.264 mp4? It's superior to flv and supported by nearly all current players.

MOV to AVI Converter-Aunsoft Video Converter

I would recommend you to use Aunsoft Video Converter as the Canon MOV to AVI converter for you to easily edit HD videos on Windows Movie Maker. Besides the .mov output, you can also export Windows Media file (.wmv) for Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Player.

Step 1. Load Canon mov videos to Aunsoft Video Converter.
Step 2. Choose AVI output format.
Step 3. Convert Canon MOV to AVI.

There are so many video converters out there in market which convert from one format to another easily and quality will also intact.

The one which I used frequently is OJOsoft Total Video Converter version 2.6.

It's really a great tool to convert videos also quality won't lose at all.

You also don't need to convert first to avi from mov and can directly convert mov to flv.

You can find this handy soft by Googling.

      Hope this will help you.

I use Super for windows. It will convert anything to anything and there are tons of options.

It's not pretty and their site is a mess, but it works great. I have used it for 3 or 4 years and they update it regularly.

Get it here at the very bottom of the page.

[QUOTE=Steve Robertson;268297] Seems I remember that ON2's Flix encoder offered a free trial.

On2 has been gone for over 2 years, bought out by Google for their encoding technology. A great encoder though... I have the Flix Pro version and it produces some of the cleanest, low-data rate files out of all the software & hardware encoders I own.

Take a look at the Riva FLV encoder, (Windows) it's free and produces quality encodes.
    Riva VX: Riva FLV Encoder

If you need Mac, the look at the MacVideo VideoFlash Converter.
