At Yahoo answer `To get targeted traffic, you should be Targeted!` You should help people by answering their question, but these people should be your targeted costumers. It is quite time conssuming and to get best results you should be target your category.

Great question! I've wondered the same thing myself about YA as a traffic source.

If I'm reading all the responds right it seems to be of limited value in most cases. The best uses are if you have a targeted site or blog that is directly related to the question/answer OR if you're niche is a popular with the teen, tween, celebrity crowd.

            Does that sound right?

I do for some of my niches

I don't see it as a direct driver for traffic - but the bottom line with IM - is we are trying to offer a solution to someones problems

If I can answer their questions and help them out - I am glad to "give back" whether I get a sale out of it or not

I've tried it before with mixed results. You have to be very careful about purely posting comments for the sake of getting your url out there. They have pretty good spam filters and will ban you quickly if you do this (i.e. post 14 replies in 10 minutes)

It may work but you should not only be dependent on yahoo answers. Yes, sometimes it is effective and that too can be on what niche you choose.

I do tried it and was getting some traffic. I would also know that person who asked a question when rates our answer as a best answer, is definately our customer.

Moreover, you'll also know from the AWstats, the incoming traffic source. You can even put Analytics code onto your site. And as LaneB suggested, you can use bit.ly to check the clicks on the links at yahoo answers.

Yahoo Answers is not where my main traffic is but it still brings consistent traffic and some of it comes from Answers I replied to 3-4 years ago. I know because of the links used back then. Just cloak your links but I can see it as well from my analytics stats. So I still like to answer questions on a regular basis.

I have used it, and it yes I have been able to drive some traffic to my website with it. Don't expect to drive a lot of traffic or use it as your main source of traffic. I like to use it as a compliment to all my other traffic sources (SEO, PPC, Article Marketing). Is this waste of time? Heck no, I'll take all the traffic I can get, and besides answering questions on yahoo only helps build my credibility! Good Luck!

I got my start in IM with Yahoo Ansers as well as forum marketing. I have moved on to other methods but from what I understand forum marketing can still be effective but yahoo answers is getting much tougher in terms of profits. It can be a source of traffic but like some others have said don't make it your main source. Good luck.

I get traffic from Yahoo Answers, Twitter, and most all other social media outlets. The most important thing you have to work at is targeting. But this is the same with any traffic no matter where it comes from.

If you're getting health traffic to a weight loss page then your conversion is going to suck and your bounce rate will probably be close to 90%. You ALWAYS must optimize your traffic the best you can.

You can answer 60 questions per day on Yahoo answers, which I've never come close to. It definitely will get you traffic from all over the world.

In the last 3 days I received about 200 hits and made .54 cents in adsense.

Fifty four cents. At this rate, I will receive my first check from Google of $100 in the year 2015.

Yahoo answers is really very useful if you are looking for the alternate traffic. But if a person is asking any question and your website are fully related to it and can solve their problem then only give the reference of your website.

I tried it a while back with basically responding to posts and then linking to an aff product. I posted maybe half a dozen responses before I got bored of it. I've been getting around 0-3 click throughs per month since then, but have yet to see any sales.

So.. yes it can work if done in mass, but make sure your responses are helpful so they're chosen as the best (almost all mine were). As far as conversion goes, I didn't see it, but it also could be because of my direct linking and/or the market =)

I think most people said it - quite time-consuming for not much return, though links do stick around for years after. Maybe pay someone to do some for a while and see if it's worth it in your niche. I find for my niches really targetted questions are not that frequent but some categories are crazy busy. Search for "Justin Bieber's phone number" and you'll see what I mean

Honestly, it depends on your niche. If you're working in a niche that is geared towards teenagers and twentysomethings, then you'll have more success then in other niches (that's from my experience).

Celebrity, movie and serie merchandise, ... things like that convert really well for me. Of course, you need to get to level 2 first before your links become clickable, but if you do a few answers every day, you should reach that soon. I also don't add a link in each answer every day. Maybe out of every 5 answers I have one with a link, sometimes every 10. As said before, the love to ban you for spamming.

I use Yahoo Answers and found it very helpful. Usually, I post the links of my blogs and the effect was awesome. I got a lot of viewers in my blogs.

I have done this when I was starting out... and I had very poor results...

The problem is if you have a bunch of answers that you post you will quickly be labeled as a spammer (which is what you are doing!!!

Then the conversions are very poor, I was maybe getting a single click for every 10 to 20 answers I gave...

    Quite a low ROI,

You could track it, just create a new page with your sales copy, and only drive traffic to that page through yahoo answers... Then simply grab a google analytics code and put it on that page... But I wouldnt expect huge results.

      Hi,

Yahoo answers is the number 1 Q&A site to get traffic/sales, there are 10 other quality Q&A sites where you can benefit from.
Am I the only person here who pays attention and gets fed up with people unnecessarily resurrecting multiple old threads just to post one liners because they have related offers in their sigs? Am I the only one bothering to report them?

These people are running WSOs, yet their posts and WSOs remain. Perhaps the mods are on a break.

Does anyone else give a fig if the whole of the main discussion forum becomes a bumping ground for desperados promoting their WSOs?

Thanks for the advice, but with respect, perhaps you should re-read the post that you have quoted.

          ..........

          To all,

These one line posters (not referring to markowe) are all over the place. Nearly every thread I've looked at today has people who clearly aren't reading anything other than the OP, or are reading one of the answers and rewording it, purely just to get their post count up. Add to them the blatant spammers.

There are more people offering nothing of any value than those that offer some. I wonder if their upcoming WSOs will fit the same profile?

It's a sad state of affairs. I know of many long time warriors who come here purely to offer their advice to people who need it for no benefit to themselves, just for personal reasons. They don't often start threads, but contribute to existing ones.

The problem is that there are hardly any problems to solve or worthwhile threads to contribute to. So they come here, moderate, then sign out and leave. For how much longer? Without those people the rest are all up the creek without a paddle.

For the record - no, you're not. I'm "reporting away", and it's annoying only to be able to report one per minute. Not so long ago the front page was almost covered with Yahoo Answers threads because someone's been bumping them all to make his useless one-line posts.

The problem is that others can then reply, thinking it's a live thread, so even when the Moderators kindly delete the reported posts, the problem isn't resolved.
