Generally you'll be making your videos in either a 4:3 or a 16:9 aspect ratio with the 16:9 ratio being what is called widescreen or HD. The 16:9 format will basically fill up the entire screen moreso than the 4:3 format.

When you produce a video for YouTube, as an example, you want to do it in 16:9 if filling the screen is important to you. But keep in mind that it's the content that's in the video that counts. The 4:3 format is still alive and well and works very well for viewers still using CRT monitors.

I don't know if that really answers your question as it was a fairly open-ended one to begin with.

Don't try and make the Powerpoint fill up the whole screen. Just shrink the recording area in camtasia to fit the dimension of the your powerpoint slideshow. When you open the camtasia recorder you should see the borders and be able to drag them.

I think I know what you are asking. To record the powerpoint presentation with camtasia, I first run the camtasia recorder and then open up the powerpoint presentation. I hit F5 (start slideshow) and then I start talking.

After the video is done, I go to Camtasia Studio and I delete the first couple of seconds of the video when I was starting up the powerpoint.

If you make it too big it won't display correctly on some resolutions for people.

show off , JUST kidding... 30" monitor would be sweet though.

as for recordings yes he's correct, you want to size it so it will display nicely on about a 17" monitor

Yeah I agree. Most people don't have 30" monitors

The trick here is to keep the resolution constant throughout the whole process. This is what will give you the best results.

The 640x480 resolution is good for Youtube.

In Powerpoint 2007 you go to 'Design' > 'Page Setup' and select 'On-Screen Show 4:3' from the drop down menu. Then go to 'Slideshow' and select '640 x 480' from the drop down 'Resolution' box.

Then go to 'Add Ins' and you should see the Camtasia record button there. Press record and away you go. When you finish recording and it is imported into Camtasia for editing, make sure you select '640 x 480' when it asks you. Then when you go to export the video from Camtasia, select '640 x 480' or 'Web' from the drop down menu.
