How To Get Testimonials For Your New Product?

For non IM niche new products, how do you go about collecting testimonials? If you give your product for free to get a testimonial, should you disclose that anywhere in the salespage? I would be interested in knowing other ways of gathering testimonials.

Thanks

I think doing a beta trial for your product is the best way to go. Select a group of people to give it away for free. During the beta period then you can ask not only for testimonials, but they can also help you identify areas that are lacking or even bugs in it.

I think people are a lot more patient with issues with a site or product when they got it for free and are in a trial state. I also think their testimonials are an investment that are worth more than the opportunity cost of giving it to them for free.

If you have a list in that niche you could offer to them at a "pre launch" deep discount (or free is sometimes best), give them some time to use the product then ask them for feedback. Be sure to ask them if it would be ok to use thier feedback as testimonials for the quality of the product.

I've had good success by going into a forum for my niche, and then simply saying that I have a new book, I am looking for testimonials, and anyone interested can get a free copy in exchange for a testimonial.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Jeffrey. Generally do you disclose that in your salespage or rather should it be disclosed legally since they are not really customers who paid for the product?
