This is a dead FB page, obviously not marketing yet it has over 1 million fans - how did they do it?

Welcome to the real world of non-marketing content that goes viral. It's interesting and a fun page.

    Coolbreeze,

From the looks of it the creator has found- maybe by accident- a general human interest / empathy topic, feeling- that a lot of other people on facebook can identify with.

The phrases strikes at the heart of what is a source of pain for most people- being lied to.

There are other examples of pages like this - who tap into common held views that cut across humanity

I HATE WAKING UP FOR SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Facebook 6,260,423 fans

    I hate goodbyes | Facebook 4,049,531 fans

Have a look at the discussions and reviews sections of these FB pages and you will see that they are full of contact requests and offers to the ADMINs- who in most cases- don't have a clue about the viral treasure chest that they are sitting on.

Now that should give the Facebook Viral Marketing & List Building Warriors much to think about .

    Stay Sunny,

    Michelle

Not true, both those pages you listed are Community pages and are not controlled by any one person - there is no admin and no one sitting on any gold-mine.

You will also notice that with most pages that reach this level of members and are based on stupid generalized themes (such as the page the OP posted) will have had their admin disabled by Facebook. You'll notice the page listed by the OP has not had a new post in it's news feed since February this year. This is not a coincidence. This is because their admin publishing privileges would have been removed way back then.

Any fanpage that gets over 10,000 fans has to be verified by the owner. Facebook will want to see proof that you are the owner of the website/product/service the fanpage is based around. If you can't provide that proof or your page is based on a generalized theme then you will have your admin privileges taken from you.

So the people who created these pages are actually not smart at all - just time wasters.

They pretty obviously weren't created by marketers for marketing purposes and that is the reason for their popularity. They are human interest pages. It doesn't matter whether or not they are live or dead pages .... people like them and visit them. If they had been created for marketing purposes, I doubt that they would be so popular or interesting. I certainly don't go out of my way to friend or like commercial pages on Facebook or anywhere else.

Says who, that's just your opinion. I know guys who would create a whole lot of pages just like this one in the hope a few would stick and become popular. When they are popular they go and sell status updates to their fanpages on websites like fiverr. Most of the fanpages listed on fiverr that offer status updates are ones based on themes exactly like this. So to say they were not created for money making purposes... well that's a matter of opinion but many would disagree with you on that one - and for good reason.

It sure does if you are planning on monetizing the page. Unless people have a reason to return to the page after they have originally liked it, they most likely won't. The only way to get people back to your page or monetize your page is by having the ability to post updates to all fans of your page. Once your admin rights are removed you can no longer do this and your page becomes almost worthless. Facebook know that and that's exactly why they do it.

I certainly don't go out of my way to 'friend' or 'like' stupid pages like the ones mentioned in this post. I certainly will go ahead and like a commercial page if it is to do with a product/service I am interested in - and this is exactly what Fan pages was created for.

Yep ... that's my opinion. I see nothing commercial going on there ... just a fun page. But for argument's sake ... I don't really care. I don't use Facebook commercially and have no real interest in it.

Which, by the way, opens up an interesting question - is Facebook too restrictive for anyone but advertisers to use effectively? In other words, are they policing commerce over social channel (apart from the paid commerce)? Plus, are they doing good or harm to their company?

Why not? I thought FB was the hottest thing since fire to make money off of the web? They get more traffic than google. And there are tons of FB/Twitter aka social media courses for internet marketers out there.

Primarily because I sell my own products and I don't feel they would be a good fit for Facebook.

Commented on a Facebook page that I consider to be a non-commercial viral Facebook page.

Only the good by page is a community (driven by FB) other two are not driven by FB admins. looks like they are controlled by users that created them i may be wrong though!!!

        thanks.

          Yeah!

A lot of internet marketers right now are taking the advantage of Facebook.

That's another way of the creative minds exist.

I shouldn't be left off from the train better also to hurry to catch up.

May be sooner or later another marketing strategy would come out w/ regards FB marketing.

It's still a goldmine. 'Like' first then post a question that everyone will want to answer or a poll. It will go out to 1,390,295 fans. This will take the curious ones to your profile and dwell a bit. Now whats the percentage of 1,390,295 being redirected to your profile. As the old saying goes, "If you can't beat'em ... join'em.

Anyways I'll go test and come back with some stats (if I'm not busy with the millions of other things I have going on).

I think you are a little (actually, a LOT) confused as to how Facebook fan pages work. If you post a question or a comment on the wall, the only people who will see it are those who happen to visit the page and look at the wall and see your comment - ie: hardly anyone.

The only way you can get a message out to all the fans is by being the admin of the page and posting a message on the wall. And this is why Facebook removes the admin privileges from people who start pages like this as they are not what fanpages were designed to be used for. Fan pages are meant for celebrities, brands, products, or services - not meaningless quotes or mottos.

It's what they call "viral marketing.."

But maybe these 1 million fans are the ones who became really interested and liked it

I've seen lots of these viral pages. They are interesting that's why many people like them. You will even see some pages that say something about naming his sister's baby Megatron if the page gets a million fans or likes.
