Is anybody else having problems with Hostgator this morning?

Good Morning everyone.

None of my sites are loading this morning, that is the site and the wp admin, they are hosted through Hostgator and cpanel isn't working either.

Anybody else having problems?

Mine are all working fine, although occasionally over the past few weeks I've been getting 501 Internal Server notices.

      Hi,

Yes, either they're having a problem with us in the UK, or the UK is having a problem connecting with the USA.

I've been on to them twice this morning because the service is intermittent, and I have been trying for four hours to upload one plugin without success and my sites are up and down like a yoyo.

I doubt if we'll ever know if it's a hostgator problem or a UK one. According to them it's a problem on my end, and I should download this blah blah and do a check for blah blah.....Funny how I'm not the only one, eh?

For all we know, the government have probably sold off the country's telecommunications infrastructure to the French in order to gain one week's worth of deficit interest payments, and have made an excellent arrangement to rent it back off them with the bulk of the rising payments kicking in in four and a half year's time at an APR of 4000%.

My sites aren't actually down at the moment but they're taking so long to load that visitors will have clicked away before the actually page opens.

HG ALWAYS says the problem is on your end, they seldom admit when the problem is on their end. But if the problem really is a UK problem. I hope it gets resolved soon, since you may not be able to change your location that easily. :-( This time of the year is a bad time to be experiencing downtime....every minute your site is down could be a lost sale.

My sites which use Hostgator are working fine.

          They weren't yesterday, completely down.

            Hi Merlincat,

Support says there was heavy usage on one account on server that has now been stopped (suspended).
That's exactly what I suggested to them, and exactly what they denied - twice.

It's nothing new to me, this is the nature of business. But sometimes by politely hassling them, it spurs them on to actually doing something about it, although in this instance, it could be that a thread on warrior forum made the difference.

I'll remember that for next time. And of course the other lesson is, next time you're talking to a different hosting company who doesn't boast that they have 4 million customers, don't make them have to explain to you why they are 'not the cheapest'.

            Yes Darla, you are correct.

Just checked out my websites/ftp/cpanel, everything seems to be in full working order for me. What server are you hosted on? Contact Support and they'll let you know what's going on.

      Hi Alex,

Contact Support and they'll let you know what's going on.
See my post just above - #8.

I did that - twice. I still don't know what's going on, except that I still can't upload a single plug in to one of my websites.

Edit - finally, my sites seem to have fixed themselves. Thank ****. Plug in uploaded in 0.00003 seconds, yippee.

I'm in United states, and one of my sites went down last night

This is a bit of unfortunate news... Everything was going perfect with hostgator until this.. I cannot stand for ANY downtime... In my mind, thats like living in an Apartment complex where "you might get robbed every now and then, it's to be expected"...

Guess I may need to look into going to a VPS or dedicated with them if it happens again (I just left a VPS)
