Why Your Website Sucks

Hi, I tried to visit your website.

But after waiting for downloads from third party advertisers, Google analytics, Facebook, Twitter, sharethis, and 50 other social whatevers your site is plugged into, all of which I have to wait for before your content appears, I gave up.

Instead, I visited your competitor with the crappy html site that instantly downloaded.

As the net gets faster, those things won't matter as much. What gets me is when one of the advertisers tries to serve up a trojan downloader.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

LOL... reminds me of, back in college; where this kid wrote an entire final paper in Lotus because that's all he knew.

In part you have reason , but crappy html site wont convert much, people are looking for relevant , nice content and also a good looking site.

The best thing to do is try to find a balance in both .

Trust me, static HTML sites that are very plain looking convert just fine. Let's do a test. You put up one of your "good looking" pages with lots of nifty images and stuff going on all over it. I'll put up a plain looking page without any of that "good looking" stuff on it. Let's each put an opt-in box on our pages. Wanna bet who converts more visitors into subscribers?

Haha - you'll never find my sites, i've hidden them many pages down in the search engine results.

Oh wait - that's not good.

I partially agree with the OP. Has anyone been to a site with one of those social media bars at the bottom?

"Update your Facebook status from OUR website!"

Now that crap loads so slow I'm not even sure the webmasters who decide this is going to be a good idea even look at their site with it on.

Too many bells and whistles not only slows down a site, it also diverts precious attention.

Do you want someone to opt-in? Include an opt-in box, maybe a video, or text, that's it. Simple, clean and clear design works best.

Never give someone more than 1 choice if you want them to do 1 thing.

This is a huge problem nowadays. People forget the golden rule of K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid!)

I agree that visitor attention is being distracted. Hey, why should they wait for too long to read what you have to say when they can jump on over to FB directly and chat with friends?

  • If you know what you're doing, you can load all that stuff last so that your content is speedy and the rest of it is just gravy.
