Everyone's Facebook Getting Hacked???

In just 2 days I have seen multiple friends posting messages with links to phishing sites and ads, etc. Their accounts have been obviously hacked, and the friends have nothing in common with each other.

They probably were registered at a Gawker site, whose entire user database was compromised. Anyone using the same password with either that username or that email address at any other site is open to get hacked.

Thank you, dvduval, for starting this thread. Indeed I have noticed this problem on facebook as well. Only it didn't click with me that a hacker was behind this. Now that you pointed it out, I'll be on the alert.
Thank you, minsight, for providing this important tip. I'm very suspicious of these "free" download sites and avoid using them.

I heard someone got in a few hundred thousand Twitter accounts and was tweeting an Acia berry affiliate link with them. Not like they couldn't figure who THAT was, huh? Like walking into a bank and saying 'Give me all the money except for so-and so's.' Lol.

Check if your friends were registered with "networked blogs"... I think they were the ones compromised.

In this case, these people are not tech savvy and surely some of them would not be on the Gawker site. I'm still wondering.

It's not that they're getting hacked. Blackhat marketers are writing scripts that are exploiting holes in Facebook. This allows them to automatically post on your wall and etc.

Facebook is actively trying to stop these, but it's hard to keep up when there is a ton of money to be made on the blackhat side.

This is a good reminder to always check the URL of the site you are on anytime you are entering your password.

Ditto, I always take extra precaution with my FB profile by using the highest level of privacy and always making sure I double check that I am at the right facebook.

There are always "ghosts" in the machine!

I have one particular friend that I have known for 40 + years and EVERY time we banter back and forth we are "de-friended!" We have talked on the phone about this and NEITHER of us is deleting the other!

Now you may say that someone in the house may be taking exception to our postings BUT here's the deal...there is NO one else in either of our houses and NO one else is using our computers! I can't explain it, I've emailed FB support about it and of course NO REPLY!

So...if friend accounts can suddenly disappear then certainly friend accounts can be hacked.

Yes, I was on there today and had spam messages. I went to offending friend's pages to see why they were sending me crap, and saw their pages were totally hacked. Bad scene.

Besides using a very strong password, I use an email address that:
A:absolutely no one knows but me and
B: is not used for anything else, ever
C: has privacy set to Only Me.
Now when I get any supposed Facebook email notifications, I simply look at the To address and immediately know if it's fake. I've gotten a lot of fakes.
If you have more than one email listed I would suggest removing them.
Also, you can turn on the Login Notifications under Account Security so you'll get notified if a new computer or mobile device logs into your account.
And make sure that there are no Linked Accounts set in your account settings. Otherwise, if those accounts are compromised, they have automatic access to your Facebook account.
No guarantees but at least you can make life difficult for the hackers.

I'm still seeing new ones getting hacked today. It's often about an Ipod. You would think Facebook could do something about this such as notice a pattern!

My site was hacked a few months back. I just changed the email and password.
I think it's one of the problems with the growth of Facebook, and trying to keep up
      with security issues.
