Is banner advertising a profitable or good way to market a cpa offer?

I've heard that text is better for some products and banners are better for others, funny how bitmap text ads occupying graphic banner space can out draw the fancy designs in some cases too. As usual, it all comes down to cost vs conversion rate. Direct buying from the right site saves some.

Absolutely! Split test between a text ad and a banner ad to find out what converts better per specific offer.

The best advice is to test!

It's funny I personally would never use banner ads to advertise any of my own products, but you better believe I'm first in line to shake my sites advertising opportunities at anyone who is interested.

Anyway, back on topic. I would assume if you had some serious control over the ads (like getting a new, better converting ad up quickly) you could probably make some serious cash.

Do you have a reason for being against banner ads?

In my experience, banners have made me a ton of money. But as I said before, it is always a good idea to split test not only between different types of banners (sizes/designs), but also between banners and text ads.

I find utilizing more targeted advertising approaches to be more beneficial in my marketing. Strictly personal experience and preference talking here. I know for a fact there are thousands of others using them, and when it comes to filling my sites ad inventory I prefer them. $2-$4 per CPM is just too juicy to pass up when you have a high traffic site.

Forum marketing, guest blog posts, list building (an affiliate marketers dream I tell ya!) and viral marketing. The last one is a bit odd as I didn't believe it myself until one day it just kind of happened.

Speaking strictly CPA offers? I've used them once. All of the movie rentals places closed down in my town, so I papered every house with a flyer that had a website on it pointing to a Netflix offer.

It worked out really well actually, because all of the rental places closed. I hit the town just at the right time as well. Shortly after many of the local businesses started putting in redbox machines. I probably wouldn't have as much luck now as I did then.

I agree with split testing but in my case I go good results with just regular text ads.

If you can buy banner ad placements on websites directly, you can also test splitting the normal long banners into two ads - have a text ad version and an image ad version. It is still just the same banner but to the website visitor, it looks like two separate ads. That way you are covering both bases and giving yourself more chances to get clicked from that same banner.

I haven't figured this out yet. A friend set up a campaign for me that was brining in clicks, but he hasn't had time to show me again. I tried it on my own and lost money. I think I will stay away from banner ads for awhile.

Personally, I've tried banner ads promoting a wide array of offers (both CPA and CPS). I never quite broke even, and ultimately lost a lot of money (several hundred was a lot for me). The closest I came to breaking even was with a free iPhone email submit, but I now know that those are notoriously undependable, in terms of scrubbing.

My advice would be to go for it, but start slowly, spending something like 2-4x payout for a CPA campaign before expanding a campaign if it does well. I went 'big' too early.

I was actually just testing this out a few days ago on some niche forum banners. Need to run more testing though as it didn't pull like I wanted. And yes, I was running one of those "ugly" banners you hear so much about. haha It was cheap though!

Yes, banner advertising can work if used properly. I suggest to create the right kind of design because it can bring in a lot for business.

Banner advertising is a goldmine if you know your stuff. If you are using the Google Display Network you probably can't run offers for CPA without cloaking or getting crafty. Google's Display Network (formerly Content Network) is barely talked about but it gets more traffic than you could ever buy - and no it's not all junk traffic. I have a software coming out soon that will make banner advertising much quicker and that will change the game forever.

            Cheers,
            O
