Yahoo Site Explorer Will Be Shutting Their Doors Soon

I use Yahoo Site Explorer all the time to spy on my competitors and for my own SEO needs.

What will you use once YSE has vanished???

    Even if dead in 2012, that is going to create problems for my link researching, in just over one year from now...

    Maybe it is going the way of the do-do bird, because they plan on more fully integrating into Bing, and hopefully Bing will offer such tools to us...

      First off, there are plenty of other tools:

      Here are some of the paid tools...
      • SEO Spy Glass
      • Market Samurai
      • ScrapeBox
      Here are some of the free tools...
      And the truth is, anyone can either purchase the script used by most of these sites or have a programmer rewrite any of the popular backlink checker scripts and launch their own such site if they are so inclined. *Hint, hint.

      Oh and IMHO, the paid tools are w-a-y better because of the functionality. You can actually download your competitor's backlinks and then upload them to tools such as SEO Link Dominator, ScrapeBox, etc., etc., and build them semi-automated or automated or simply send them to your VA. That is a MAJOR time saver. Of course, you cannot perform that task with any of the free tools.

      Secondly, Yahoo has a history of not engaging in forward thinking and there is a great possibility that Bing may take on the Yahoo culture.

      How many Yahoo products had fallen by the wayside? Remember when they shut down Yahoo Groups? I won't even take time to pull out my list because they taught me a valuable lesson with the Yahoo Groups debacle; put Yahoo on the very bottom of your list of priorties.

      They are also contemplating scuttling MyBlogLog.

      This marriage to Bing may not turn out as planned if Yahoo somehow takes the lead or gets control of the Focus Groups or gains control of upper management.

    Bing will release a similar tool. They joined in their AdCenters, and based on my SEO experiences they joined under their algos

    For the few who hadn't heard microsoft-bing acquired yahoo and is integrating it into their services and eliminating redundant assets.

    A number of backlink services, probably the free ones for the most part are using data generated by yahoo sites explorer and won't survive without it.

    I can see why Yahoo is shutting down the backlink service- the bandwidth bill must be ginormous with all those tools hitting it up. Same with Amazon limiting access to their shopping API. My strategy is taking backlinks with my custom tools and recreating what my completion does (to an extent).

    MS and all the other tools are going to have to find a new source for their backlinks.

    All those other online tools listed are actually fronts to Yahoo site explorer. I believe however Bing will create their own back link registry.

      Aw man. That sounds like it'll be a killer for some of us el cheapos. Even with the paid programs, aren't they pulling results from yahoo as well? Hopefully like others are saying, Bing will roll out their own version and everyone can adapt.

        Company May End Content-Sharing Site Delicious

        SAN FRANCISCO -- The content-sharing site Delicious may not be on Yahoo Inc.'s shrinking menu of online services much longer. Although a final decision evidently hasn't been made, Delicious is on a list of services that Yahoo is planning to close after shedding 600 employees, or about 4 percent of its work force, earlier this week.

        An internal Yahoo slide containing the endangered list was posted on the Internet Thursday. The presentation was shared through Twitter, whose popularity may be one of the reasons that Yahoo no longer prizes Delicious as much as it did five years ago when it bought the site for an undisclosed sum. In a statement, Yahoo confirmed it will phase out several services in the coming months without specifically mentioning Delicious.

        The company, based in Sunnyvale, California, said it would provide more details "when appropriate." Other services on Yahoo's "sunset" list include MyBlogLog, Yahoo Buzz, Yahoo Picks and Yahoo Bookmarks. They would become more detritus in a housecleaning that Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz began shortly after she was hired to engineer a turnaround nearly two years ago. She has closed or sold a variety of unprofitable or little used services so Yahoo could focus on other areas more likely to attract traffic and sell advertising.

        Some of the priorities heading into 2011 include mobile, communications and local services. Bartz's strategy hasn't paid off yet, with Yahoo's revenue growth still lagging other Internet rivals such as Google Inc. and Facebook, leaving its stock price in the doldrums. Yahoo shares gained 6 cents to close Thursday at $16.51. The stock price is down slightly for the year and hasn't come close to approaching the levels it reached during the spring of 2008 when Yahoo was still mulling a takeover offer from Microsoft Corp. Those talks ended after Yahoo balked at Microsoft's last offer of $33 per share in May 2008.

        Yahoo bought Delicious at a time when its then-CEO, Terry Semel, was trying to build a social hub. He would later try to buy Facebook for $1 billion, only to be turned down by that social network's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, who was just named Time magazine's person of the year, for building one of the world's most influential services.

        Delicious started in 2003, a few months before Zuckerberg began working on Facebook in his Harvard University dorm room. In a Thursday e-mail to The Associated Press, Delicious founder Joshua Schachter said he regrets selling his creation to Yahoo. He left Yahoo in 2008 and is now working on a new startup, called Tasty Labs, that is trying to turn social networks into a more useful business tool.
        Yahoo's issues started at the top and trickled downward and that is the anatomy of a poorly ran organization.

        Oh and uh, I wouldn't be putting too much energy or resources into Yahoo Pipes.
