Hubpages, Squidoo, etc. with duplicate content

Hey,

I was thinking about submitting some of my content to Hubpages, Squidoo, etc., however I really don't feel like rewriting the entire page.

Would it be a bad idea to submit the content as a Hubpage that's basically identical to how it looks on my website?

If not.. what do you recommend? Using the same basic framework but rewording it?

Thanks

Well obviously Google likes unique stuff, but using duplicated content isn't too bad.

You can get away with it as long as you don't overkill it, but I wouldn't push your luck.

If you really want to test the results, do two websites on the same niche and make one with unique articles, the other with duplicates. Test the results, and whichever gives you better results, pursue.

I've had good and bad luck with using duplicated content. It's really just hit/miss depending on the niche and the search engines.

Well from what I have heard, you can get banned if you use too much duplicate content and for that reason would say it's not worth taking the chance.

That's more like if you duplicate a couple hundred pages. I've run auto-blogs before and all they did was duplicate content and they were never banned.

But like Nancy said, it's all up to you whether you feel like the work is worth it or not.

But then what value add would you give to your visitors. I mean they read the content on hubpages & come to your site to find the exact same content. Will they stay back? I guess you will have to put a smaller version of the article on hubpages & give the details on the site..

Say I have a page on my site about toy cars.. I want to create a HubPage with that content. Rewriting the content and linking to my page about toy cars on my site would be essentially giving them the same information.

But it would make sense for me to write the page on toy cars and link to my site where they could ALSO read about toy trains.

I just don't understand how I would write a quality HubPage without basically copying exactly what I have on my website (or rather, one of the pages on it).

Could someone please enlighten me how they do it?

      Thanks

If I told you that Google's Duplicate Content Penalty was a myth, and I could show you evidence to that fact, would it answer your question for you?

Why not write a unique article on some aspect of Toy cars that isn't covered on your site and then link that back to your site on toy cars which gives them additional information.

Web 2.0 properties usually frown upon it, but in any *free article directory it's perfectly fine to use "duplicate" <read: SYNDICATED> content. The general rule is that if a site offers ways within to monetize your work, they expect it original. If the site offers NO compensation or no way to utilize that content to earn - say adsense clicks, paying for the article, or providing other ad revenue possibilities - then they will not ask that content be original.

Hubpages, therefore, requires the content be original. Not sure about squidoo but I would assume the same.

Thanks for all responses. I guess I'll have to slightly rewrite the content.

The page on my site breaks it into 4 types and explains each type and pros/cons.

What I'll probably do is write a hubpage/squidoo lens on each of these types and link to the page on my site which has all 4 types. Guaranteed the hubpage won't be that long, but it's better than copying/pasting what I already have I guess =)

    Thanks again
