    The product itself?

Although I probably would never buy a product unless it was in a good price range and have a good sales letter.

Interesting. So a product must not only be good, but have a good sales letter. I'm learning something here, thanks

Assuming the product is actually good (which is the most important thing to me ) these would qualify in the following order:

    1. Documentation
    2. After-sales service
    3. Price
    4. 24x7 contactability

If the documentation is good, the after sales service won't be as critical. The price needs to be in line with what's being offered, but a high price doesn't automatically disqualify me from buying. And 24/7 contactability isn't important, as long as I get responses in a reasonable time (within 1 business day or thereabouts) assuming that it isn't some kind of mission-critical service like hosting.

It all depends on the type of product.

Thanks, I'm beginning to see that different people have different ideas about what is most important.

So what If I have product X and it's great and really works but isn't cheap and product Y which is crap but cheap. What do you buy?

I can't seriously believe that price can possibly come before quality of the product. Surely, or have I been under a stone, the quality of the product should be dictating what you're prepared to pay for something?

The quality of the product is the most important thing.

    Here's a tip:

For your first product in your sales funnel create a high quality product for a very low price so your customers feel like they're getting extremely good value. You then have happy customers that will be more likely to buy higher priced products from you in the future.

The problem with quality is that it's subjective (it means different things to different people.) I'm really suprised to find out people value things like sales letters and documentation, which is a good thing because I guess you always want to give people what they want (and not what you want.)

I'd say yes. My web hosting company usually responds in 2-12 hours, depending on their work load.

Smaller companies tend to run support during daylight U.S. hours only. Consider paypal... Do they offer 24-hour support? No.

Number one is that the product does what it's supposed to do. Following on from that would be support then price.

I like the idea of 24/7 live chat, particularly if it's hosting you're referring to.

The product is most important. 24x7 contactability? - unfortunately, too many customers expect that.

Price is relevant only in regards to the product. Who wants a cheap product that is worthless?

After sales service? I'd rather not need it.

I'd say price, it has to be good value for money. So the product has to be good as well.

I always find an excuse to contact customer service and see how long it takes to reply etc (currently on day 4 of a product i'm intrested in!)

The quality of the product is always the most important thing to me, but in all honestly, there are some great products out there that I just can't afford, amazing as they may be. For me, it has to be a combination of a product that offers great value, but where the price is also right. The other two things are great bonuses, but if I can afford the product and it gives me what I needed, then hopefully I'll be all set to do the rest of it on my own.

        Hang on a second.

You look at the price first then test out customer support for up to 4 days?

When abouts do you see if the products any good or of any value to you?

Either it's after this process above which is very odd to me, or its the first thing you see in which case price can't be the first factor you use to determine whether to buy something. By seeing if somethings good value for money you must be looking at the quality of documentation/product before you look at the price.

This is a serious question but obviously it will never happen.

If I had a product that you knew would make you a million dollars and it was $7, you'd be getting excited about the fact it cost $7 not the effect it could have on your life?

Which (if any) of the following about a product is most important to you ?
So the price is more important than the product you're buying with it? You don't see any features and benefits, you just see the price first. Also more important to you overall, is the ability to ask questions after you've bought it, even in the middle of the night (????)

I have re-read the OP five times to see if I was missing something.

Nope. I didn't miss a thing, so I have to ask how anyone can answer the question without knowing what the product is?

Price is relative to quality, quantity & features. So, assuming you're comparing equivalent products, then price may be the most important... Or is it? Does reputation come into play? Known vs new? Ease of purchase?

    (2) After-sales service
    Not relevant for most products.

    (3) Documentation (manuals etc.)
    Not relevant for most products.

    (4) 24x7 contactability (live online chat etc.)
    Not relevant for most products.

It seems to me that CrhisD is concerned about a software product or online application. If so, this should have been stated.

Assuming we talking about a product that is good I would probably say price first and then documentation but those two could easily swap around depending on how relevant the product was to my interests at the time.

If I was dying to learn about domain flipping right now and you showed me a quality domain flipping guide with good documentation then I would more willing to pay a higher price for it as opposed to some other type of niche guide.

Everything on your list can be ass, but if it GETS ME THE RESULTS I WANT...then you have met my primary need.

Now if we assume it gets me the results I want, next would be good documentation, unless its a really easy to use product. Then I would say price (value) or accessibility. Much of this has to do with what the product does and how complex it is to use.

    At least for me.

For me, i choose after sales service and contactability is the most vital one. i used to buy a few product(big launches product). but where it comes to support, i wait until a few month for their response. now it been a year. wow... still no replies.

It really depends on the type of product and the niche.

But in general, it has to be the quality of the product and i would say, the documentation and support are next in line of importance.

    That's just my take.

I am assuming you are asking this question given that the product is high quality, the obviously most important factor. Given this, documentation/support are tied for most important in my book - if I can't figure out how to use it with the documentation, or if there is a bug of some kind, I (as a consumer) will be frustrated. And when I get frustrated, I want to be able to contact someone and get good support.

I would rank price as next most important, because if it isn't an appropriate price (preferably one that makes me feel like I'm getting a good deal) I won't buy it in the first place!

Just came across in this topic survey?

        Anyway, have you encountered AWSurvey?

        Is this true or not?

I wouldn't also say that this is a scam just because it's free.

I would only say scam if they say it's free then later on ask you for a money.

does AWSurvey is true or not?

The quality of a product is the most important to me, after that:
1)Price - It 2010, have to watch the budget at times
2)Documentation - I don't like having to call or email for support
3)After sale support - Need to be able to access the help I need quickly, time is money
4)24x7 contact - Not needed, but nice if available, I work late into the night often
