I'm stumped... and there has to be a simple solution

I am trying to figure out a way to remotely control an embedded PowerPoint presentation. I dont want to go through anything like gotomeeting because it requires people to register, only so many people can attend and so on...

I want to simply be able to have a page on my site (a wordpress site) that will have an embedded PowerPoint presentation that only I, the admin, can control remotely. I will have the "attendees call my conference number to hear me speak as I advance the slides.

A wordpress plugin would be perfect but any advice would be appreciated.

I have never tried this outside a corporta scenario, but, does NetMeeting work?

Go to your Windows run command, and enter the command "conf". That will set up netmeeting for you, for free. You can start a meeting, and other participants can place a call to your IP that you shall share.

It works like magic inside corporates, but I have never tried it outside. Simply try it out once and your problem may get solved.

You don't seem to understand the basics:

PowerPoint is a desktop application, NOT a web application. It simply does NOT work on the net.

      Have you tried docs.google.com?

You can also create a video from your powerpoint presentation and embed in the wordpress blog.

But how to control the presentation remotely: ???

@Istvan Horvath I understand that PowerPoint is a desktop application... I could really care less what format the presentation is in.

I just need to be able to remotely change slides as an embedded object in my website. People will call in and I will advance the slides when I'm threw talking about them. That's why I cant have a video, because it requires interaction and feedback before I advance the slide.

And that's exactly what you can NOT do with PP slides... or any non-web (read: desktop) application.

Because of this limitation - developers invented the webinar solutions. But you don't want any of those... so, you will have to invent something new.

I use basecamphq.com I can't remember if "viewers" have to register but I know users do. I think you can just send viewers a link.

      Sorry for not knowing more.

Albeit said in a harsh tone - this is right.

Your only option is a webinar. (Unless you're feeling inventive )

What about streaming live video to them? Works a lot like that thing we used to have when I was a kid, I believe it was called "television".

Setup your PowerPoint, aim a camera at it and give your presentation in real time. Put JW Player on your site and stream it out to your audience.

Otherwise you're probably looking at a custom application, and the high cost involved in building it.

    Hi Mike,

Have you tried capturing your screen and streaming it, using something like Camtasia + Live Output, or WebCamMax?

I have seen people doing this and it seems to work ok.

So much hostility and so much wrong information.

    Check out livestream.

It will do exactly what you want... with powerpoint.

You can stream your desktop live through an embedded video player on your website. You're looking for the proplayer option. The free version does have a limited number of viewers, I don't remember what it was.

You could also check out ustream or the other live streaming options. I don't remember which ones have which options.

@Istvan Horvath It does not have to be PowerPoint. I could careless about the format, I just want to achieve the effect.

@chickenlittle Ahh... I may have to try that. Streaming it as a video is an option. Thanks

    @jasonmorgan Bingo!
